Saturday, January 10, 2015

Jalal (Glory), 11 Sharaf (Honor), 171 BE - Saturday, January 10, 2015 about Sunset Pacific standard Time

I'm online today, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to get online. It is January and I'm having financial problems. I need to pay my Internet provider, my power bill, and get the tag for my car renewed. I don't have enough money to deal with all three items. I might be able to handle one or two if the check I'm expecting comes this week. If it doesn't then I'll have to decide which is more important.

I would ordinarily say the car and the electricity, but without Internet access it is difficult for me to increase my income by even a few dollars. Catching a bus is also difficult for me, but I am able to get paratransit buses to my apartment so I can go to doctor's appointments. Those are expensive as well at least with a car the only thing I usually have to worry about is filling the gas tank up.

The problem is that everyone I know is in about the same fix I am. Short of money and little chance of increasing the income this month. Perhaps I will just let the Internet drop, but then I would have to go to the bank, grocery store, or power company to pay the bills. At least with an internet connection I can pay bill online and earl a little money online.

I think at this point the best thing I can do is pray. There could be a source of money I'm not seeing because I'm so worried about the finances. By praying and putting the situation in God's hands I may be able to see through this financial fog.

I’m weary this morning

Fidál (Grace), 11 Kamál (Perfection), 166 BE – Tuesday, August 11, 2009 about 10:50 AM Pacific Time

My weariness isn't physical. It's been a difficult morning. My Internet connection slowing to a snails pace, actually I think snails crawl faster. The connection is faster at night and early of a morning, so that's when I'll have to work. I'll do it this way until I get DSL and the house cleaned up.

I don't need to sleep anyway, not that I can sleep once I lay down. I don't sleep well, when I go to bed. I can fall asleep at the keyboard, but when I go to bed I'm wide awake. A nap during the day gives me more rest then sleep at night.

What I like about Explorer 8

Jalál (Glory), 6 Kalimát (Words), 166 BE – Saturday, July 18, 2009 about 1:13 PM Pacific Time

I have found one thing I really like about Internet Explore 8. The address window changes colors when I go to a secure website. I noticed this the first time I used it after upgrading. I like that because it tells me immediately I am accessing a secure website. It is comforting to know that the website is secure, especially when I access my bank account or my PayPal account.

After I have used Explore 8 for a while, I will probably find other things I like about it. Right now, I am still learning its capabilities. It will take me a while to get know its attributes a little better. Then I can determine other things I like or dislike about Explorer 8.

Persistence pays off

Istiqlál (Independence), 5 Kalimát (Words), 166 BE – Friday, July 17, 2009 about 8:14 AM Pacific Time

Persistence pays off! I spent the entire morning attempting to make post to my blogs. The connection is slow this morning and when I went to save a draft or publish the post it didn't work. I think the problem is a combination of the weather and a telephone hook-up to my Internet provider. I'm going to have to get DSL there is just no getting around it.

It took me two hours to make one entry to another blog and it appears I'm going to have the same difficulty making this entry. That's all right, eventually I will get the entry posted I just have to be persistent. I can't let difficulty with my connect stop me from making a post.

This experience is a transformative experience. Transformation is the reason a person encounters tests and difficulties. If it weren't for tests and difficulties neither human beings nor civilazation would advance.

I upgraded to Explorer 8

Fidál (Grace), 14 Rahmat (Mercy), 166 BE – Tuesday, July 7, 2009 about 1:14 AM Pacific Time

I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 yesterday. I think I am going to like it better then the earlier version. Of course, today is the first day I have used it, so I might want to wait until I have more experienced with this version. It is easier to tab browse and it fines the e-mail links I click on without any problems. I still have a telephone line connection to the Internet, all though I am planning to get DSL within the next couple of months.

Slow as molasses in January

Fidál (Grace), 6 Jalál (Glory), 166 BE – Tuesday, April 14, 2009 about 7:38 AM Pacific Time

My Internet connection is slow as molasses in January this morning, which has nothing to do with the reason I haven't made an entry in four days. I'm going to get DSL sometime in 2009, but I'm not sure precisely when that will occur. Therefore I'm going to have to be patient. I think I've written that before, but my patience is wearing a bit thin when it come to the Internet connect.

I've decided against cable modem or wireless, simply because I would have to change Internet providers. I don't like changing providers because of the hassle concerning e-mail accounts and business. The second reason is the cost of DSL versus the other two. DSL is somewhat less expensive and I have other places to put my money at this time.

The advantage to DSL is not tying up the phone line. I have an answering machine that works properly most of the time, so if I don't have time or want to answer the phone I can let the answering machine pick it up. I don't have voice mail through the phone company right now. I just have the basic phone service, which gives me a telephone line and a phone number.

The biggest problem with using a telephone line connection to my provider is the speed of the down loads. I have to wait until night or Sunday to download updates or anything else. I would like a faster download time and the ability to take phone calls when I'm working. No I don't have the ability to make phone calls with my computer.

I’m becoming impatient with my download time

Jamál (Beauty), 4 Ilm (Knowledge), 165 B.E. – Sunday, October 19, 2008 about 12:43 PM Pacific Time

I'm going to have to start looking into getting either DSL or Cable Modem. My download and upload time with a telephone connection is become too slow. I don't think it's any slower then it's always been, it's just that I'm becoming impatient with the time it takes.

Downloads take too long. Uploads take too long. Everything takes too long. I used to think I was a patient person, until I started dealing with a telephone line internet connection. There was a time when I thought that having the phone tied up while I was online was an advantage, no longer.

I don't want instant download time, I just want to be able to download a file during the day instead of having to wait until midnight. I want my phone free to take incoming calls, even if I simply let the answering machine pick them up. I still want the phone line free for the calls to get through. I want to be able to make a telephone call while I'm online. I want an Internet connection that doesn't cut out on me suddenly and in the middle of a blog entry. Are these things too much to ask?

My grandfather was a very patient person, but I suspect even his patience would wear thin dealing with the type of Internet connection I have now. I'm going to have to figure out a way to upgrade my connection by the end of the year.

Patience, Persistence and a telephone Internet connection

Jalál (Glory), 1 Mashiyyat (Will), 165 B.E. – Saturday, September 26-27, 2008 about 8:16 AM Pacific Time

My internet connection and browser are acting wonky this morning. It disconnects at random points and the browser sometimes can't find the website address. All right, I know part of the problem is my fault.

I have a telephone hook-up and I tab browse using Internet Explorer. This method works most of the time, when I'm patient and don't try to go to two different address at the same time. As long as I let the browser find the address on one tab before looking for another address on another, there isn't much of a problem.

There are a lot of disadvantages with my connect, but there are a few advantages as well. One of the advantages is to teach me patience and persistence without getting frustrated. I'm still working on the "not getting frustrated" part. In this case, it doesn't help to get frustrated.

The interesting thing about my Internet connection issues is assisting the process of the transformation. I didn't realize how much it helped this process until this morning, when, instead of throwing up my hands and wanting to quit, I just clicked on the address again and waited patiently for the connection.

My browser has been acting up lately

Jalál (Glory), 5 Rahmat (Mercy), 165 BE – Saturday, June 28, 2008 about 6:46 PM PDT

My browser has been acting up lately. At least, I think it is my browser; all though, it could just as easily be my Internet connection. I connect to the Internet over the telephone lines, which means both slow downloads and uploads. However, lately I click on a ULR and I get an error message.

Actually, I get one of several different error messages. Sometimes say to retype in the URL and other times it just cannot find the address. When it cannot find the address it usually gives me an ENS error. If I click on the URL again, then it finds the page with no problem.

True, sometimes the problem is my fault because I am tab browsing with a dial up connection. It is possible to tab browse with a dial-up connection, but you have to wait for the first tab to find the address and then go to the second tab to let it find another URl. I am going to have to learn to deal with the problem, because DSL is out of the question right now. On the bright side, I am learning patience.

The Test and Difficulties of a Dial-up Internet connection

3 Qawl 164 B.E. - Sunday, November 25, 2007 about 3:55 PM PST

My Internet connection is especially difficult today. It keeps disconnecting while I'm in the middle of composing blog entries. Fortunately, blogger.com automatically saves you work every few minutes. Still it can become irritating, particularly when it does this every few seconds. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is today. It could be the weather here in Las Vegas, because it cloudy and damp, which could effect the phone lines. I don't know enough about things like that to say for sure what it is.

The problem taxes my patience and persistence. It's just another form of test and difficulties, I've had a lot of those in the past nine months. Saying prayers helps, with the patience and persistence part. When I say a prayer about test and difficulties then the Internet connection disconnecting doesn't seem to bother me as much. I think I'm going to start saying I'm going to say one of the prayers for assistance with test and difficulties revealed by Baha'u'llah before going on line from now on.

Take The Internet Back

11 'Ilm 164 B.E. - Thursday, October 25, 2007 about 6:13 PM PDT

I added a new link to the sidebar and though I would write a little about it. I join Take The Internet Back because I liked their policy. Through this website I can read advertisements that are specifically directed to me. I don't get anything that I don't want.

I Enjoy Reading Ads now

I actually enjoy reading ads now because they are for products and services I'm interested in rather than stuff I don't want. It's nice to log into the website and read the e-mails. They also come to my intermind box so I can save those I want to take a second look at. I may not buy everything that is sent me, but I enjoy reading everything get from Take the Internet Back.

Free Downloads for Members

There are also free downloads for members. I've already downloaded one e-book about blogs. I'm reading through it slowly and learning a great deal about creating and publishing a blog.

Life is a Ditzy Internet Connection

8 'Ilm 164 B.E. - Tuesday, October 23, 2007 about 10:04 AM PDT

It's windy in Las Vegas and my phone connection to my Internet provider is acting up more than usual. I realized this morning that's how life is sometimes. There are moments in my life when I'm suddenly disconnected the the Source of faith and inspiration. In those moments my life falls apart.

Connecting to the Source

When I'm disconnected from the Source, the fault is mine. In times of disconnection I find that I allow material details to come between myself and God. In those time I need to reconnect and reconnect immediately with God. How do I reconnect? Through prayer and meditation.

The prayers and scriptures revealed by Baha'u'llah and the Bab are excellent reconnectors. I can sit down, read or recite a prayer and feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. I like to meditate and use the prayers of the Bab and Baha'u'llah during those times of disconnection. The reason is that I've found them the quickest way to become reconnect with the Source.
