Bedtime Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

There are two or three different versions of this prayer. The one in this entry is the one I learn when I was a child. I don't know precisely how this version of the prayer affected me. When I say the prayer with my Mother or Grandmother, I never thought much about the meaning of the prayer. The only thing I thought about was the protection it gave me, and the spiritual feeling I had after saying it.

This was the first prayer I memorized. Mom and Grandma saying it with me helped me memorize it. I don't say this prayer anymore. I say a prayer revealed by Baha'u'llah. It isn't anything like this prayer, but it does giving me spiritual feeling when I say or read it. Sometime I just say one prayer, and other times I read more than one. Most of the time I say or read about three prayers before going to sleep. When I read three prayers, I usually pick a prayer by Baha'u'llah, the Bab, and 'Abdu'l-Baha.

The Last Sunday in September 2017

It is the last Sunday in September 2017, I'm feeling a bit down. I'm not sure why, but I think it may have something to do with the change of season. It's autumn, the temperatures (at least here in Las Vegas) are cooler. We've turned off all the air conditioning that keeps the place livable in summer. The door remains open all day, which does make it a bit chilly in the house. That's all right because I really don't care to have the space heater on right now.

I've finished 182 of the 200 poems I'm dedicating to the Blessed Beauty. I begin poem 183 today, with the intention of finishing it sometime this evening or tomorrow. The bicentenary of the Birth of Baha'u'llah is 28 days away. I will be attending the bicentenary celebration here in Las Vegas, so I may have a final poem (over the 200) to write after returning home from the celebration.

Last Tuesday, September 19, I had an outpatient procedure on my left leg. My leg feels better today than it has all week, so it is healing. That is good, but I still have to get up and walk around. I need to walk around more than what I am. Therefore, I will get up right now and walk around, and when I get back I will post this.

40 Day, 27 Poems Left to Write

The 200th anniversary of the Birth of Baha'u'llah is 40 days away. I have 27 poems dedicated to the Blessed Beauty left to write. The Blessed Beauty is one of the titles of Baha'u'llah, who is the prophet founder of the Baha'i Faith.

Yesterday I finished poem 173, called The Glory of the Lord. It is in the book Bicentenary Poems and Prose posted in my port on writing.com. I don't know the themes of the remaining 27 poems, I'm sure that Baha'u'llah will reveal them to me in the next 40 days. In the meantime, I will pray, meditate, read the sacred writings, and work on other writing projects.

Bicentenary Birthday Celebration Poem

In the two hundred years since His birth,
The world has changed,
And His scriptures have spread across
The planet.

In 2017,
We celebrate His 200th birthday,
It is a planetwide celebration
Of love for Baha'u'llah.

Happy Friday

Happy Friday!
It rained last night
Clearing the air
And making breathing easier.

Happy Friday!
It rained this morning
Cooling the air
And making it a pleasant day
To write poetry about the rain.

The Hair Cut

Snip, snip,
The stylist severed
Strands of hair.

Snip, snip,
Each strand dropped
Onto the tile covered floor.
