I decided that I will not renew my subscription to a daily newspaper because I have access to all the news I want to hear or read online.
I decided that I want to move into a studio apartment because they are easier to keep clean then a one bedroom apartment.
I decided that I do not want to keep a land line because I have a cell phone and I do not need both.
I am considering giving up television because I can find most of the shows I enjoy watching online.

One Test After Another

Extreme heat warnings and triple digit temperatures are bad enough, but now my cell phone doesn't work. It worked this morning, but this evening it is dark. I can't make any calls and when I put it on the charger it doesn't respond. I call customer service (on the land line) and was told there was a three hour wait. I, therefore, went to the website and sent an e-mail. I will try customer service again in the morning.
It is just one test after another. The triple digit temperatures, I can handle or at least tolerate. The extreme heat warnings, I can deal with, as long as I remain hydrated and can find a cool place in the afternoon. I am not sure what I will do without a cell phone. I know that I spent years without one. I know that I have a land line, so I am not cut off from the world.
The cell phone has become a part of me. It is an extension of who I am. Perhaps I have become too dependent on it. It has all my contact numbers, which I did not back up in another document. If the numbers are still in the phone's memory when I get it working again, if I get it working again. In the meantime, I will send e-mails to everyone reminding them of the land line number and asking them for their phone numbers.

Learning to use my new cell phone

I attended the Feast of Glory last night. The host called me to let me know the Feast was scheduled for 7:30 PM instead of 7:00 PM and I realized I had not given him my new phone number. I give the host my new number last night, but this morning I have to call the Baha'i Center to make sure I e-mailed to the Center.
This morning, I am putting my contacts into the new phone. This is a long process because I have thirty or thirty-five contact in the phone's memory. I am not going to put all of them in the new phone because I no longer need to contact people who cared for Mom. Even without transferring all of them it is still a long process.
There is one number, in the old phone that I did not save with a name. I do not remember why the number is in the phone without a name. I know I had a reason at the time I put it in, but I do not remember when or why. I suspect I presumed that I would be able to remember the name and the reason I kept the number. I am not sure whether to call the number to find out who it belongs to or just drop it from my list. Getting used to the time change

Daylight Savings Time went into effect on Sunday, March 10, at 2:00 A.M. I am still getting used to the time change. It takes me about five or six days to get used to Daylight Savings Time because my internal clock thinks it should be earlier then what the time on my cell phone or computer shows.
I do not wear a watch anymore. I have not worn one since 2010, the watch I did have I gave to my mother when I bought the cell phone. Mom put the watch away somewhere and I have not been able to find it. I suppose by now the watch battery has corroded and when I do find it, if I find it, I will have to throw the watch away. Oh well, I am not going to worry about that because I may never find the watch.
I use the clock on my cell phone, which has its advantages and disadvantages. I cannot look at the time when I am driving, so I cannot worry whether the traffic is going to make me late for an appointment. When I drive, I put my cell phone in my purse so I cannot answer it when it rings. In the car my purse usually set on the floor of the passenger side and it is too far for me to reach to pick it up.

Did you turn your clocks back Sunday morning?

Daylight savings time ended Sunday, November 4, at 2:00 AM. Did you turn your clocks back before you went to bed Saturday night? Did you turn your clocks back when you woke up Sunday morning? Fortunately, for those of use who have a computer connected to the internet, a cable box with a digital clock, or a cell phone, we did not have to anything to be on time because an app automatically changed the time.
The only clocks in the house I had to turn back is the one on the coffee maker and the microwave. I still have to turn the clock back on the microwave, but I am not worried about that clock because it does not affect the use of the microwave. I turned the clock on the coffee maker back this morning because I may want to set the brew time. I have not used that particular feature on the coffee maker yet, but there is always the possibility I may want to use it.
I thin I am going to start using the automatic brew time this winter. It means I have to make sure there water is in the tank and coffee grounds in the basket the night before, but I normally set those things up the night before anyway. The only reason I have not been using it is leftover coffee, which I warm up in the microwave the next day.

I Remember Life without a cell phone and now I am never without one

I remember life without a cell phone. I had a watch that I
wound everyday. I used an alarm clock to wake me up. I had to wait until I was
home to make a phone call or check my voice mail. I remember life without a
cell phone, but now I cannot live without one.
I carry my phone with me wherever I go. At home, I wear a
dress with a pocket so that I can answer it immediately. Even when I go to get
Mom up of a morning, I have my cell phone with me. This is a good thing because
if Mom should slip to the floor (I put a “gate” belt around he waist) when I am
transferring her from the bed to the wheelchair, I can call the non-emergency
number and get paramedics to lift her off the floor.
I even take my cell phone to bed with me. Most of the time I
put it on the nightstand near the bed, but not always. Sometimes I wake up and
find the cell phone in my right hand because I wake up in the middle of the
night and reach for the phone to see what time it is. If I have a dream, then I
write the dream in a journal and place the time I woke up at the bottom of the
entry. I guess when I lay back down; I don’t put the phone back on the nightstand.
At other times, I hear Mom crying. Then I pick up the cell
phone and take it with me when I go to see why she is crying. I never go into
Mom’s room without taking the cell phone with me because I may need it to call
the hospice that provides in home care, the non-emergency number if I need help
getting Mom into bed or the emergency number in case I encounter an intruder.
In this case, when I get back to bed, I’m just too tired to put the phone back
on the nightstand.

I feel cut off from the world in Las Vegas

I cannot make or receive calls on either my landline or cell phone. I e-mailed my cell phone provider this morning. The reply they sent said it would take about 48 hours to solve the problem. The phone connected to my landline does not work. I either need to get a new phone or a cable to fix the phone, in the mean time I am out of contact with the rest of the world.
I need to get a headset and a microphone so that I can download Skype to my computer. I do not like the feeling cut off from the world. I can check my landline voice mail online, but I cannot contact anyone back until I get either the landline phone fixed or cell phone.
One of the blessings of modern life and technology is a connection to the rest of the planet. I have been lax in checking my Facebook page, but no longer. From now on, I will check my Facebook page at least every other day, if not everyday. In addition, I have to get a headset and microphone so that I can use Skype.

I changed my cell phone to a monthly plan

For the past three or four months, I have ran out of minutes before I ran out of month. Therefore, I changed my cell phone to a monthly plan. Last year, when I bought the phone 300 minutes for 60 days was fine. In fact, it was more then I used and the minutes I did not use carried over. However, the past two or three months I have ran out of minutes before I ran out of month.
At the end of last month, I bought 600 minutes for 60 days and ran low on minutes last week. Therefore, I changed to an unlimited monthly plan. Now I do not have to worry about running out of minutes before my check hits the bank. True I cannot carry over the unused minutes, but it is worth the price because I do not have to worry about using minutes at the end of the month.
I can now call anyone I want without worry. I do not have to consider whether to answer my cell phone when it rings. In addition, I have discovered a new definition for unlimited. Life is good.

I have a cell phone

I finally bought a cell phone in May 2010. I don’t know how I lived without one; it’s became invaluable especially when I’m out of the house and someone else is staying with Mom. I kept the landline because I need it when I’m away to call in. I also like the idea of having a phone I don’t have to answer.
My phone has a camera. I used it a couple of days ago to take some pictures of Mom and the cats. I still have to figure out how to sent the pictures to my e-mail so I can upload them to my blogs. I know the process can’t be difficult. I attempted to send one of the pictures to both of my e-mail addresses, but the process failed. I’m going to attempt it again, but not until I have read the instructions thoroughly a couple of times.
If I still can’t send then I’ll call technical support. I don’t like to call technical support unless I have to; however, I need to learn how to send my pictures to one of my e-mail address. I want to post my own pictures to my blog and I remember how to do it if I figure it out myself.

Places I do not answer my cell phone

I have a cell phone. I have not set up the voice mail. I am think I will do that this weekend. I have decided that there are three places I will not answer my cell. The reasons are safety, courtesy, and privacy.
I will not answer my cell in the car because talking to someone on a cell phone is distracting and unsafe. I will not answer my cell phone in a meeting because it is impolite; in fact, I turn my cell onto vibrate when I am in any type of meeting. I will not answer my cell phone in the bathroom and to prevent this I usually leave the phone in my purse or in another room.
I have not decided what to say on my voice mail message. I may just use a generic message with name, phone number, and request for a call back number. I may not even request a call back number because I can see that on my missed calls. Anyone who wants to block their number, does not really want to talk to me anyway.
I might say, “I am in one of the tree place I do not answer my cell phone, so please call back or leave a message.” Alternatively, I could just find a scripture verse and put that on the message.

My new cell phone has games

My new cell phone has three games (1) The Need for Speed: Carbon, (2) The Sims DJ, and (3) Jamdat Sudoku. The only game I play is Jamdat Sudoku because it is the only one I am interested in playing. Sudoku is the only game on my phone that I enjoy.
When playing Sudoku on the cell phone, I can enable regular grids or newspaper grid. I usually play on regular grids. The levels of difficulty are basic, easy, medium, and hard. Lately I have played the basic games, but that will change. Next week I will go to the easy or perhaps medium level of difficulty.
I can download more games if I want, but I am no planning on it right now. I only enjoy two or three games and Sudoku is the one I prefer to play while I am waiting in line.

I am changing my voice mail message

I am changing my voice mail because I am changing my phone answering policy. Normally, when I am at home I answer the phone if it rings and I can reach it before the fourth ring. However, this policy causes me to waste time because I have a problem saying "No!"
Ninety percent of the time, I work from home and online. When I had a phone line connection to the Internet, there was no problem because people could not get through. However, since I got DSL interruption of my work hours is becoming an issue. In addition, is my inability to say "No!" The combination causes me to waste work time, so I am going to start answering the phone between certain hours.
I now have a cell phone, so any friend, relative, or business associate can get me on the cell phone. If the cell phone rings, I can answer it depending on where I am at the time. I do not answer my cell phone when I am driving, attending meetings, or in the bathroom. I put my cell phone on vibrate and put it in my purse, so I am not tempted to answer when it rings or vibrates as the case may be.
