This morning, I am drinking coffee from Mom's favorite coffee cup. The design on the cup is a man playing a musical instrument, I think the instrument is called a base fiddle. Mom always like to drink her coffee from this cup, so I decided to put my coffee in it today. I believe this decision has something to do with missing Mom.
Mom and I always preferred our coffee dark and strong, but when she became ill I changed to a lighter blend of coffee. I did not change to decaf because neither of us liked it, I think it had something to do with the taste or the way it made us feel when we drink it. This year, I changed back to the darker blends of coffee because I prefer the taste.
Normally, I do not drink more then one or two cups a day even though I make coffee in a 12-cup carafe. When I have leftover coffee, I use the microwave to warm it up the next day. There is no use wasting a good cup of coffee, especially when warmed over coffee taste almost as good as fresh coffee. Of course, I use a drip coffee maker instead of a percolator. Because of the way a percolator works it brews stronger coffee.

Did you turn your clocks back Sunday morning?

Daylight savings time ended Sunday, November 4, at 2:00 AM. Did you turn your clocks back before you went to bed Saturday night? Did you turn your clocks back when you woke up Sunday morning? Fortunately, for those of use who have a computer connected to the internet, a cable box with a digital clock, or a cell phone, we did not have to anything to be on time because an app automatically changed the time.
The only clocks in the house I had to turn back is the one on the coffee maker and the microwave. I still have to turn the clock back on the microwave, but I am not worried about that clock because it does not affect the use of the microwave. I turned the clock on the coffee maker back this morning because I may want to set the brew time. I have not used that particular feature on the coffee maker yet, but there is always the possibility I may want to use it.
I thin I am going to start using the automatic brew time this winter. It means I have to make sure there water is in the tank and coffee grounds in the basket the night before, but I normally set those things up the night before anyway. The only reason I have not been using it is leftover coffee, which I warm up in the microwave the next day.

One-Third can of coffee left

I am almost out of coffee. I have one-third of a can left with five days left in September. I bought a large can, which contained 34.5 oz., which seems like lot of coffee. This is not very much coffee to a person to makes two percolators a day.
Making coffee in a percolator is different then making coffee in a drip coffee maker. When I use a percolator, I use 9 or 10 tablespoons of coffee, but when I use a drip machine, I put only 4 or 5 tablespoons in the basket. The amount of coffee I use depends on the grind and the type of coffee I buy. If i grind the beans myself, I use less coffee then if the beans are already ground.
This morning I made fresh coffee and then went out. When I came back home I added the coffee I had leftover from yesterday to the pot. Of course, I removed the used grounds first because a percolator makes coffee stronger if you leave the grounds in the basket.. If I am fortunate, I will have enough coffee for the rest of the month. This month I do not have whole beans as a backup; therefore, when I run out of coffee I have to drink tea. Tea is good, but it is a poor substitute for coffee.

I’ve managed to scare myself twice this morning

The first time I scared myself this morning was when I went to make coffee. I put the filter in the coffee maker, then the coffee grounds, then the water and set the carafe under the basket. I turned the coffee pot on and not green light. It scared me because I thought the coffee maker was broken and it's the only one we have at this time. I solved the problem by plugging the coffee maker into the electricity.
Note to self: Before making coffee check to see if the coffee maker is plugged into the electrical outlet.
The second time concerned the refrigerator. My fridge runs 24/7 and I can usually hear it running. This morning I couldn't hear it and I thought it had stopped working. While a fridge that runs 24/7 needs replacing, I can't replace it today. If it stops running today or within the next few days, I have a problem. I need to find a used fridge and someone to get it home and plugged in. My Kia is a bit too small to haul a fridge home in it, so I'm going to have to find a used fridge for less then $100.00 and a way to get it home.
Needless to say, one of the things on my prayer list for the next week or so it that the fridge continues to run until I can replace it.
