Like photos in an old album
yesterday returns
as hardwood tress transform
winter death masks
into spring's verdant greens.
March winds carry with them
the memories of Oklahoma at planting time
grandpa digging up the ground,
grandpa putting chicken manure
onto grandma's flower beds
so that in a week or two
she could plant flowers that blossomed
red, gold, and violet.
An ancient cottonwood tree
growing new leaves proclaimed
the joy of a new season,
while the birds built nests
and hens sit on eggs
waiting for them to hatch.
