I went to the laundromat on Friday morning after I picked up my eye drop prescription at Smith's Food & Drug store. I knew rain weather report called for rain, but it was my understanding that the rain would not arrive until late afternoon. I figured I would have time to pick up my prescription and finish the laundry before the rains started.
I was wrong! I picked up my prescription and then went to the laundromat. I arrived at the laundromat before the rains started. I put clothes into one triple load machine and blankets in another. Then I went to the change machine to get $5.00 in quarters. Next I put one load of clothes into a single load washer. While the clothes were washing I went next door to Money Tree to get a new card from them because I lost my old one in the move.
I went back to the laundromat without getting wet because it rained. I relaxed a little while I waited for the clothes to finish washing. I took the clothes out of the washers and put them in dryers. Just as the clothes finished drying (about 1:30 pm) it begin to rain. When the clothes were dry, I put them into my push cart, covered them with a couple of sheets, and took them to the car.
After loading the clothes into my car, I drove home in the rain. I unloaded the clothes from the car and put them back into my cart. I pushed the clothes to my apartment, while it was still raining. It did not stop raining until after I got the clothes into the house. Fortunately, the blankets did not get wet. The sheet that did get wet I hung over furniture to dry. I do not have a drying rack in my studio apartment because I do not have room for one.
I am glad I can stay home today and recover from yesterday. I am eating hot homemade chicken soup. I am drinking hot tea or hot coffee. I cannot warm up the apple juice because my microwave throws a breaker when I use it and I do not have a kettle to heat the apple juice on the stove. I do not want hot apple juice anyway. I would rather drink hot coffee, tea, or water to warm up.

Monday Evening January 13, 2014

It's Monday evening and a new solar day has begun. As I sit here looking out my window into the darkness, I wonder what tomorrow will bring. It's been a stressful couple of weeks of packing and attempting to get a prescription I needed. I called the doctor's office myself this morning and picked up the prescription this afternoon, so I can begin taking it again on Tuesday morning.
This morning, I called in a prescription for my eye drops, which I hope I can pick up either Tuesday or Wednesday. I still have some stuff to pack tonight, but after the trip to the grocery store to pick up the prescription, nine cans of soup (the soup was three cans for $5.00 and I had an e-coupon on my customer card for $2.00), and a box of crackers I'm a bit tired. I'm also hungry so I think I'll open one of the cans of soup for my supper. I think a can of soup with a peanut butter sandwich sounds good.
I should have gotten another box of crackers, but since I'm going to be moving soon I didn't want to have too much stuff to put in the box of food. If I need another box of cracker, I'll purchase it when I pick up the eye drops (that is if I don't have to wait two weeks for that prescription). I hope I don't because I may be moving to Searchlight and it's difficult to get into Las Vegas on a daily basis.

Another cup of Coffee

I have no idea how many cups of coffee I have drank today. I am not going to attempt to guess at the amount. I am going to have another cup of coffee and then I am going to pick up a prescription. I called it in yesterday, so I know it is ready.
I need to pick the prescription up today because I need to take the tablet in the morning. I take the pill on an empty stomach about an hour before I eat. I take the pill, then I turn the computer on and check the time. After that I do the morning stuff, which usually takes about an hour.
Before I leave the house I will unplug the coffee pot and will not plug it in again until I make another pot of coffee in the morning. I make one pot of fresh coffee each day and then warm any leftover coffee I may have. I usually do not have leftover coffee, unless I decide to make a second percolator.

Reviewing January 2010

I know today isn't the last day of January, but I have to go to the laundromat tomorrow so I'm going to review January today. Las Vegas had more rain in January 2010 then in all 2009, as a result my car is clean on the outside. It rained so much in January that it washed all the dirt off my car, now the only thing I have left to do is clean the inside.
Numerous other interesting thins that happened during January. Last night was the Night of the Wolf Moon, the first full moon of the year. I went outside and looked up at the beautiful moon as it shown brightly through thin high clouds. I also saw Mars to the left of the moon.
In January, my mother's meds went up $3.00, the security payment down $3.00 and no they don't even out because Mom takes more then one prescription. Fortunately, my medication didn't go up, but now my mother pays more for her medication then I pay for mine. This is an interesting phenomenon because Mom has health insurance and I don't. My mother now pays $6.00 for her medication and I still pay $4.00 for mine.
On Wednesday, January 27, I renewed my car tag. After I got the smog test, I went to the DMV and used on of their kiosk, which accept debit cards, to renew my tag. It may be a little more difficult next year because on January 28, the DMV started asking for proof of insurance when you renew your tag. I have proof of insurance, but I didn't take it in with me on the 27th because it wasn't necessary.

Medication cost have doubled

It's a New Year and medication cost have double, at least in our house. Mom has two prescriptions waiting at the pharmacy, but we only have enough in the bank accounts for one. I called the pharmacy to inquire about the waiting prescriptions and get the price. Between our two bank accounts there is enough to pay for one prescription.
Today I will go to the pharmacy and get the Galantamine. At this point, that is the most important of the two because she is complete out of those tablets. The other prescription, which is Spironolactone, she has two tablet left. That takes care of Saturday and Sunday, however, since my check does not arrive until Wednesday, there is a problem.
I have some aluminum cans in my trunk I can sell, but that will not bring enough for the prescription. I am putting the situation into God's hands because at this point I cannot find a solution by myself.

Oversleeping in Las Vegas

I don't like oversleeping because it starts my day out late. However, the past week or so I've overslept. The alarm goes off and I turn it off. I think the clock is too close to the bed. I need to put the clock far enough away so that I have to get out of bed to turn it off.
Most people wouldn't consider sleeping until 6:45 AM oversleeping, but I do. I have a prescription I have to take on an empty stomach and then wait an hour before I can eat breakfast. If I get up at 6:45, I take the tablet about 7:00 AM, which means I can't eat until about 8:00. I get hungry before then.

One More Day of Work this Week

One more day of work this week and I have a four-day weekend. On Thanksgiving we're planning to go out for lunch and then stay home the rest of the day. On Black Friday, I think I'm going to have to go out, but not for Christmas shopping. I have two prescriptions to pick up.
One prescription is at the Walgreens on Las Vegas Blvd. and Charleston. The other is at the Wal-Mart on Charleston and Nellis. I will be traveling to opposite ends of Charleston on a CAT bus. I'm going to be gone most of the day. That is unless I change my mind and pick up one prescription tomorrow after work.
The only problem with that is I will be getting back home after dark. Not that it bothers me to walk in this neighborhood after dark; it's just that the walk from the bus stop to the house is a long one. If I go to Walgreens to pick up Mom's prescription, I won't be able to stop a the grocer store and get a couple of much needed items.
Let's face it, I'm just not looking forward to going to both the drug store and the grocery store in the same evening. When I went to Food 4 Less last week, I over estimated what I could carry home and pulled a muscle in my shoulder. The pain has just started to subside. I don't want to pull another muscle this week.

I Love Modern Technology

I love modern technology, but I should not attempt to dial a phone before I have drink my first cup of coffee in the morning. What event caused this epiphany? I called the pharmacy this morning to refill a prescription. Even though the pharmacy isn't open yet, I can call punch in the prescription number and pick up the prescription tomorrow.
The first time I dialed the pharmacy this morning I dialed the wrong number. Rather then getting the pharmacy, I got a residence. The lady was very nice even though I probably woke her up. Any way I dialed the number before having my first cup of coffee.
Grandma Newland never refilled a prescription over the phone. I remember her taking the bottle to the pharmacy and then picking it up later. She usually took the bottle in on a day she did the grocery shopping or something else. She would take the bottle in, leave it with the pharmacist, do the other errands she had planned, and then pick up the refill. This was her normal method of getting her meds refilled.
I like the way I have Mom's and my prescriptions refilled. The way Las Vegas is laid out it is much easier this way, it takes less gas and since Mom and I go to different pharmacies that are several miles apart and on opposite ends of Charleston Blvd., I can arrange to pick up our prescriptions on different days without any problem. I just have to make sure I count the pills to see how many remain in the bottle. If I call a day or two before the pills run out then I can pick up the meds while we still have a day or two of pills left in the bottle.
As I have said before, modern technology is wonderful and it makes life so much easier
