Sunday Morning Epiphany

I realized late last night or early this morning, while composing
today's entry in my in my writing.com blog, that I have a positive
outlook on the future of humanity. After meditating on this for a few
minutes, I decided that this outlook comes from being a Baha'I. I look
beyond the present situation of the human race to a time when world
peace will be establishes.
I
know this positive outlook didn't occur immediately after I declared my
belief in Baha'u'llah. It took a while for it to develop. The things
that changed my negative attitude to a positive one was reading the
scriptures and saying the prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah and the
Central Figures of the Baha'I Faith. Studying and meditating on the
sacred scriptures changed my view of the future of the human race.

Monday Epiphany

The chocolate cake I baked yesterday is too big for just one person. I will be eating cake for a week and by the time Friday comes the cake will be dry. I will have to our coffee or milk on the cake so that I can eat it. I like having coffee with my cake, but I prefer to have a cup of coffee rather then the coffee poured over my cake.
All right, this is my own fault. When I bought the cake mix I did not think about the cooking for one issue. It is difficult to cook for one person when you have spent most of your life cooking for two. However, I am going to have to learn to cook for one, especially when it comes to deserts like cake.
After thinking about this situation over breakfast, which was a slice of cake and a cup of coffee, I have decided to it is best for me to eat cake in a restaurant. In a restaurant I can order one slice of cake with ice cream and not have to worry about any leftovers. As much as I enjoy cooking a cake in a microwave, I will have to stop fixing cake at home.
I do not mind leftovers of pasta or other items, but cake is different. If I have leftover cake in the house I will eat too much and this means I cannot have cake or any type of desert (fruit excluded) for a month. Oh well, life always has something to teach and sometimes the lesson is one I teach myself.

Sunday epiphany

I baked a chocolate cake in the microwave today. I mixed the cake according to the directions on the box and then put it into a microwavable casserole dish because I don't have anything else to use for cakes when I put them in the microwave. It took the cake nine minutes to bake and I'm waiting for it to cool enough to ice.
When I smelled the cake baking, I realized that I don't want to bake cakes any other way. The cake smelled the same as it would in a conventional oven, but I could smell the cake sooner in the microwave. I like baking cakes in microwaves, especially in summer when I don't want to use a regular oven. I also like baking in a microwave in winter because I don't have to wait as long for the item to bake.

Coupon Epiphany in Las Vegas

I’m attempting to save money by using coupons. I clip my coupons, place them in an expanding coupon-size file and sort the coupons by month. There is only one problem with this method. I can’t remember the types of coupons that I have in the file. If I can’t remember the coupons I have then how can I use them before the expiration date.
I have to make some changes to this method. In 2011, I listed the coupons I had in a spreadsheet and sorted them by expiration date. This method worked all right, I simply did not keep it up. I’m going back to that method, with some slight changes. I’m setting aside an hour or two on Sunday to sort the coupons and make my grocery list for the week. This way I can decide which coupons I need and use them before the expiration date.

I Love Modern Technology

I love modern technology, but I should not attempt to dial a phone before I have drink my first cup of coffee in the morning. What event caused this epiphany? I called the pharmacy this morning to refill a prescription. Even though the pharmacy isn't open yet, I can call punch in the prescription number and pick up the prescription tomorrow.
The first time I dialed the pharmacy this morning I dialed the wrong number. Rather then getting the pharmacy, I got a residence. The lady was very nice even though I probably woke her up. Any way I dialed the number before having my first cup of coffee.
Grandma Newland never refilled a prescription over the phone. I remember her taking the bottle to the pharmacy and then picking it up later. She usually took the bottle in on a day she did the grocery shopping or something else. She would take the bottle in, leave it with the pharmacist, do the other errands she had planned, and then pick up the refill. This was her normal method of getting her meds refilled.
I like the way I have Mom's and my prescriptions refilled. The way Las Vegas is laid out it is much easier this way, it takes less gas and since Mom and I go to different pharmacies that are several miles apart and on opposite ends of Charleston Blvd., I can arrange to pick up our prescriptions on different days without any problem. I just have to make sure I count the pills to see how many remain in the bottle. If I call a day or two before the pills run out then I can pick up the meds while we still have a day or two of pills left in the bottle.
As I have said before, modern technology is wonderful and it makes life so much easier

Isn't the Internet Wonderful

The Internet is absolutely wonderful. A person can find anything that they want to know from "How to Cook a Turkey in a Microwave" to the significance of the gifts mentioned in "The Twelve Days of Christmas". I was born on Christmas Eve and, according to my mother, missed being a Christmas baby by only a few minutes. Therefore the traditions surround Christmas have always fascinated me.
Recently I have researched song "The Twelve Days of Christmas", because I'm part of a writing challenge on writing.com that uses the song as inspiration for each of the twelve challenges. There is some disagreement about the historical accuracy of the spiritual or religious meaning of the song. However, that does not make the song and researching it any the less interesting.
There are several different web sites that give information on the song. I found one web page giving the spiritual significance of the song and when he twelve days are actually celebrated. As a child I heard the song and even sang it in Christmas pageants, but until recently did not know the possible religious significance to the gifts in it. I always thought it was about a man giving gifts to his girl. No one explained the spiritual or religious significance of the song and I always wondered why it was used in a religious pageant.
According to the web page The Twelve Days of Christmas, these days fall between Christmas and Epiphany. The twelve days fall between either between December 25 and January 4 or December 26 and January 6. In some traditions the first day begins on the evening of December 25. In addition, the "true love" mentioned in the song refers to the soul's beloved, who in the case of Christians is Christ. Even if the historical accuracy of the traditions is in despite, I find this information fascinating. It also explains why the song is used in so many religious Christmas pageants.
