Listen carefully
You can hear Earth’s scream echoing
Off the tops of mountains.
Listen to her agony
As mountain tops are removed
To feed corporation’s bottom line.
Listen as her pain
Reverberates
Through atmosphere and mantel,
As her children
Obedient to the gods of greed
Behead her mountains
And fracture her stone hard bones.

Pain
The steed of the Valley of Love
is chomping at the bit
waiting for the rider
to place a saddle on it.

Creation Saturday: The Pain in My Left Foot
The memory of you
Has become a dull ache,
Like the pain in my left foot
Caused by a stone bruise on my instep.
Your memory
Is an old injury
Receding with time,
Like the ache in my foot
As the bruise heals.
Now,
I can look forward to a day,
When the wound of your memory disappears,
Like an ingrown toenail
Removed and dis cared
With yesterday's trash.
It wasn't always this way!
There was a time
When the memory of you
Sent shar stabbing, burning pains
Through the core of my being
Like a rusty nail
Penetrating the sole of my shoe
And piercing the ball of my foot.

Spiritual Sunday: Healing Prayers on Sunday Morning
Jamal (Beauty), 15 ‘Aẓamat (Grandeur), 172 BE - Sunday, May 31, 2015 about 8:09 am Pacific Daylight Time
Sunday morning
I woke up in pain
because I lay down to sleep
last night.
I know better then to lay down to sleep because everything I lay on causes my back to hurt. I doesn't seem to matter whether it is a mattress, a couch, or a love-seat about halfway through the night I wake up with excruciating lower back pain. Last night or rather early this morning (about 12:30 or 1:00 am) the pain woke me up and I could hardly pull myself off of my love-seat because of it. I finally managed to sit up and then put my feet up on a large plastic storage container I keep in front of the love-seat. Because of the pain it took me a while to go back to sleep.
As I recite
the short healing prayer
revealed by Baha'u'llah
the pain subsides
in incremental amounts.
The last time I saw my doctor, I didn't have her renew the prescription for the pain medication. It's not that I don't need it, it's just that I don't like the idea of becoming addicted and the side-effects of the medication. I will see my doctor sometime in June so I'll ask her about over-the-counter meds. Then I'll discuss the pros and cons to see which is best for me. She may want me to go to a specialist before she prescribes or suggests any type of pain relievers.

Summary Saturday: The Good, The Bad, and The Painful
Jalál (Glory), 11 Jalál (Glory), 171 BE - Saturday, April 19, 2014 about 10:24 am Pacific Daylight Time
I'll start with the painful, which occurred on Thursday night. I had another episode of stomach pain which caused me to get offline early, curl up in the fetal position, and attempt to get some sleep. I didn't get much sleep because of the pain, so I sit up and slowly said the long healing prayer, which helped more the curling in the fetal position. The pain eventually subsided and I was about to get a little bit of sleep.
I know the pain was caused by something I ate, but I can't figure out what. The last doctor I talked to about it suggested that the problem was eating fat; however, I hadn't eaten anything with fat or even any red meat for over a month. One of the condiments I ate could have caused the problem, but I don't know which one. I'll just have to make sure I don't eat all three condiments on the same day and see what happens.
The bad occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, I had a panic attack and was unable to do anything for a two or three minutes perhaps more. On Wednesday night I dealt with a bout of insomnia and could hear every strange noise that my apartment makes as well as those coming from the apartments on either side. The weird thing about that is that one of the apartments is empty, so there shouldn't be noises coming from an empty apartment.
The good concerns a new library card and shoppers' card. On Monday, I went to Von's and got one of their shoppers cards. After that I went to the library, got a library card, and checked out a book of poems by an author I'd never heard of. I like reading poem and stories by unfamiliar writers. On Wednesday afternoon, I gave away the chocolate Easter bunny I had in my freezer because I checked the potassium after I purchased it and found out that the bunny wasn't on my low potassium diet plan.

A Painful Sunday Morning
Jamál (Beauty), 19 'Ilm (Knowledge), 170 BE - Sunday, November 3, 2013 about 9:23 AM Pacific Standard Time
It's a painful Sunday morning,
getting up every fifteen minutes
so that the osteoarthritis in my knees
don't lock the joints
or sitting down every twenty minutes
so that my legs don't collapse under me.
It's a painful Sunday morning,
trying to live another day without heat
because if I turn it on
the power bill will go through the roof
and I still have to pay
last month's bill.
It's a painful Sunday morning,
but this too shall pass
like winter
when spring's
warm smile appears.

I found the answer to Friday's problem
Jalál (Glory), 9 ‘Aẓamat (Grandeur), 170 BE - Saturday, May 25, 2013 about 9:17 AM Pacific Daylight Time
This morning I figured out what caused my stomach pain yesterday. The problem was caused by drinking coffee without eating anything all morning. I have a bad habit of not eating breakfast before 10:00 or 11:00 AM, which means that often I go out without any food in my stomach. I drink coffee, but I do not eat. On Friday, that is what caused the pain in my stomach.
I figured that out this morning because I drink a cup of coffee without eating anything. The pain in my stomach started again. After the pain started, I fixed myself a couple of eggs with buttered toast. Once I ate the pain went away. When I was younger things like this did not bother me, but now that I am over 60 it gives me problems.
This afternoon I will mix some powdered milk so that I can have cereal with my morning coffee. That should take care of part of the problem with my stomach. The only thing I have to figure out now concerns the specific food or foods that I eat which causes me issues. I suspect the culprit is foods that hove cooked tomatoes in them. Unfortunately, there is not very much I can do about that because I receive canned tomatoes and pasta sauce with my senior food allotment.
I can limit myself to one can of pasta sauce or diced tomatoes a week, but I cannot eliminate them all together. I can also add other ingredients to the pasta dishes to help dilute the pasta sauce. The last thing I can do is make sure I take the prescription for my stomach problems everyday. Taking all those steps will allow me to eat the foods I like without dealing with the pain that those foods cause. If the pain gets worse or occurs more then once every two or three months then I will have to talk to my doctor about other solutions or other problems.

An Osteoarthritis Morning in Las Vegas
Istiqlál (Independence), 2 Mulk (Dominion), 146 B.E. - Friday, February 8, 2013 about 8:35 A.M. Pacific Time
an arctic wind blows
the bright sun cast dark shadows
no birds are singing
It's an osteoarthritis morning, my knees are stiff so I walk like a zombie. When I went outside for the paper the wind chilled me to the bone. It's the type of day I would like to remain indoors, but that isn't possible. I have to take some items to the storage unit this afternoon which means I have to load them into the car here and unload them at the storage unit.
The loading and unloading isn't going to help my knees. The last load I took was on Wednesday, I didn't take a load Thursday because my back hurt; I must have strained it on Wednesday. I will load the car after I have breakfast and decide whether I'm going to take a pain pill before I go to the storage unit or waiting until I get home.
I may wait until I return home because if I feel today the way I did Wednesday then I will want a nap. I have difficulty sleeping when I'm in pain, so the medication will do me more good when I get home. I don't like to take pain medication unless it's absolutely necessary. My doctor advised against taking the medication unless I was in extreme pain.

Today the Pain is a one
Istiqlál (Independence), 14 Núr (Light), 167 BE – Friday, June 18, 2010 about 5:22 PM Pacific Time
The pain is a one
Haunting the depths of my mind
It waits unguarded
The pain in my knee is flicker, like a flame burning low and then high, from one to nine. The pain never goes away it is always there waiting for me to go to sleep. When I do go to sleep and stretch my leg out the pain wakes me up.
I go to sleep in the fetal possession, when I stretch my leg out it hurts so bad that I wake up. It doesn't matter what I take, the pain is still there interfering with my life and my joy.
Rising to a nine
It pulls me out of deep sleep
My joints protesting
The constant pain is wearing on my soul and mind. I don't sleep well at night. I try to take a nap during the day, but that is no better because the pain in my knee is always there. It is always waiting for me to let down my guard.
I know that pain is part of the process of living, but normal pain is eventually relieved. Chronic pain is different because it never leaves it just retreats for a little while waiting to reappear.

The first Tuesday in August 2009
Fidál (Grace), 4 Kamál (Perfection), 166 BE – Tuesday, August 4, 2009 about 6:09 AM Pacific Time
It's the first Tuesday in August 2009 and the morning sky is mostly cloudy, with a few patches of blue sky peeking through. I awake about 4:50 AM in a good mood. True my knees hurt, but my knees always hurt when I wake up in the morning. It has to do with sleeping curled up in the fetal position. My knees hurt when I stretch my legs out in the morning.
I've said my morning prayers. My mother is awake and getting ready for her day. I haven't made coffee yet, which is unusual. However, I was thirsty this morning so instead of making coffee immediately, I drink water. I rinsed my mouth out with salt water last night before I went to bed, so I think that's why I'm thirsty this morning.
The first Tuesday in August started out well. I haven't put in a load of laundry yet, but I will do that when I go into the kitchen to make coffee. I think I'll have eggs today for breakfast and perhaps toast as well. All though, the toast I'm not sure about since my gums are still sore from my false plate. I had the plate adjusted yesterday and the sore spot on my gums hasn't healed yet.

My Mother Got Her Dentures Yesterday
‘Idál (Justice), 11 Qawl (Speech), 165 B.E. – Wednesday, December 3, 2008 about 4:28 PM Pacific Time
I didn't work yesterday because I had to take off to get Mom to the dentist. She got her new dentures and she tells me they feel good. It's nice to see her smile again. She didn't smile much with her old set because there were some teeth missing and she just never got them fixed. However, she smiles now and she has a beautiful smile.
I have a dentist appointment on December 9, to have my upper teeth pulled and a set of dentures put in. I'm going to work that morning and then go to the dentist in the afternoon. My appointment is for 1:00 PM and it will take two hours. I'm planning on going to work the next day. I don't car how bad the pain is, I'm still going to work. At least, those are my plans today; come December 9 at 4:00 PM I may change my mind.
I don't know why I would change my mind because I'm used to pain now. My right knee still hurts and it hurts worse on these cold nights. However, pain in the knee is different from pain in the mouth. I doubt that I'll change my mind because December 12 is my last day of work for this semester and this year. I'll have three weeks off without a paycheck. Oh well, the important thing is Mom has her new teeth and I will have part of mine next week.

After a long and weary day
Istijlál (Majesty), 1 Ilm (Knowledge), 165 B.E. – Thursday, October 16, 2008 about 5:52 PM Pacific Time
After a long and weary day, I want to cry. My knee hurts, my legs are tired and I'm not sleepy. I'm not going to work tomorrow, which is probably just as well because I don't think I could make the one mile walk to work much less coming back.
Tomorrow I have to call the car insurance and make two doctors appointments. One for me and one for my mother. I'm going to change the clinic where I go because there is one closer to my house and easier to get to. I need to talk to a doctor about my right knee, which is in pain now. Fortunately, the pain is about a 1.5 or 2.0 on a 10 point scale; 1 being the least and 10 the worst.
I've recently (yesterday) started using a cane. I have to buy a tip for the cane, which I will as soon as I can get to a store selling them. It won't be tomorrow unless someone takes me there because I'm not going to walk to the store and back. Not with my knee the way it is. I have to go to work next week, so I'm going to have to keep from too much walking this weekend.
