A Beautiful May Morning

It's a beautiful May morning,
with a gentle breeze blowing
through the city.

Inhale the fragrance of the morning
and give thanks to the All-Glorious Lord
for another day of life.

On a Spring Morning in 2020

The chill in the morning air
doesn't stop the birds from singing
or building nest.

I listened to them
as I waited for the paratransit bus
to take me to my obligatory blood draw.

Social distancing ignored
because I need my med refiled
and the doctor won't refill them
without the blood work report.

Wake Up

I wake
before dawn pours
cream into the black coffee of night.

I rise
before mourning doves
lament the passing wind.

Morning

How beautiful is the morning,
with white could above,
and commuters going eastward,
to meet the rising sun.

Unsheathed Claws

Claws of dawn
penetrate day's closed eyelids
drawing the scarlet hue of morning.

Wake Up Call

Wanting the sun's healing touch,
the pain
in my right knee
wakes me on cold mornings.

I get up,
see the face of morning
in the rising sun,
hear the voice of dawn
in Las Vegas' collective yawn,
and taste
the sun's warm kisses
in hot sips
of black coffee.

The Nightingale Calls

The nightingale calls,
Out of the darkness that hides the dawn,
His melody echoes across the valley of shadows,
Waking from sleep the lovers of light.

The nightingale calls,
Out of the light that veils the dawn,
His song echoes across the chaos of morning,
Rousing from slumber lovers of God.

How Beautiful is the Morning?

How beautiful is the morning?
Beautiful the scarlet rays of dawn.
Is it time for the Lord to return?
The Glory of the Lord reveals
Morning to humanity.

How beautiful is the morning?
Beautiful the white clouds up above.
Is it time to proclaim
The splendor of the Lord's return?
Morning is passing quickly.

How beautiful is the morning?
Beautiful the pilgrims going eastward.
Is there a reason to rejoice?
The Most Great Name intoned in
Morning's crisp air.

How beautiful is the morning?
Beautiful is God's dawning light.
Is this the reason that we sing?
The nightingale intones
Morning's might.

Morning Exercise

Jamál (Beauty), 17 Asmá’(Names), 173 BE - Sunday, September 4, 2016 AD about 9:44 AM Pacific Daylight Time

I took a walk down memory lane today
Back to Blackwell May
Of 1955.

That was the year when a F5 tornado
Destroyed half the town,
I remember walking around
Through dabre
That just the day before
Were houses and business
That held happy people.

I no longer live in Tornado Alley,
But the memories
Still surface.

Morning Rituals

Istijlal (Majesty), 9 Jamál (Beauty), 173 BE - Thursday, May 5, 2016 about 5:44 AM Pacific Daylight T ime

Morning always seems to come so early. It wakes up slow and stretching wondering what the day will bring. Each morning brings specific rituals that help the morning and myself wake up to face  the unknown possibilities of the day. Some morning rituals are about the same for everyone, so there is no need to go into those. Other rituals are different for each person waking up.

My morning rituals consist of taking my thyroid medication before I even get out of bed, or in my case up off the recliner. I recite the morning prayer by heart, turn on the light, put on the coffee, and change from my nightclothes into my day clothes. Sometimes I change into my day clothes before I turn on the light or begin brewing the coffee.

Morning rituals are comforting and give some stability to the day.  Stability is necessary to keep a person on track and moving forward undepressed. However, I think one should change the ritual are periodically and shake things up. That's why I waited until after I begin this entry to go into the kitchen to pour myself a cup of coffee. Usually I get my coffee before I begin composing poetry or blog entries.

On my way back to the computer from the kitchen, I stopped to look out my front window. I wanted to see what the neighbor's dog was barking at. I still don't know why she was barking this early in the morning because she usually doesn't back at anything until later in the morning. There was one car parked across the street this morning.

Most of the neighbors move their cars into the alleys behind the apartment buildings on Thursday because this is the day the street sweeper is supposed to clean Sunrise Avenue. We have to move the cars in back of the buildings because they give tickets to those cars still parked in front when the street cleaner drives past. I can tell you from experience that a parking ticket for that is $20.00.

Coffee on Sunday Morning

Jamal (Beauty), 6 'Izzat (Might), 172 BE - Sunday, September 13, 2015 about 6:20 AM Pacific Daylight Time

An early rising
street lights scatter the darkness
in my neighborhood.

Morning coffee brewed
I open the window blinds
waiting for first light.

Pouring a hot cup
I take a sip and then walk
to the front door, open it.

I stand there watching
as street lights illuminate
Sunrise Avenue.

I say a prayer
giving thanks for the new day
a new week begins.

Sip by sip I watch
dawn illuminate the sky
turn charcoal clouds pink.

I watch a pigeon
fly from tree to roof and then
land in front of me.

Morning Nap

Jamal (Beauty), 11 Asmá’ (Names), 172 BE - Sunday, August 30, 2015 about 12:14 pm

I know
that afternoon naps
are normal
and recommended,
but today
I took a morning nap.

I didn't intend
to doze off
when I set down on the couch
to meditate
and pray.

I said a prayer for forgiveness
then leaned back
to contemplate
the words.

I closed my eyes
to shut out the morning
so that I could focus
on experiencing
the presence
of the Holy Spirit.

I dozed off,
woke up
a few minutes later
feeling refreshed.

Saturday Morning Thoughts: December 14, 2013

Jalál (Glory), 3 Masá’il (Questions), 170 BE - Saturday, December 14, 2013 about 7:26 am Pacific Standard Time

Another weary morning,
after a short
and semi-sleepless night;
maybe,
another couple of prayers,
a second breakfast
(with a bite of protein)
and some more coffee
will make
the rest of the day right.

Another weary morning,
with a list of chores
that can't
be left undone -
perhaps
I should consider
an afternoon nap
or a walk in winter's
warm sun.

The doorbell woke m up this morning

Jalál (Glory),16 Mashíyyat (Will), 170 BE - Saturday, October 12, 2013 about 5:46 AM

The doorbell woke me up about 3:30 AM. I got up, put on a robe, and answered the door. No one was there, so I closed the door, took my thyroid medication, said a morning prayer, and turned on the computers. Since the bell ring only once it is possible it was part of a dream or my subconscious waking me up. Whatever causes this phenomenon it has been occurring every 30 to 90 days since 2007 or 2008.

I am not worried, but I am not used to it happening. I still get up and go to the door to see if anyone is there. I know it is not a good idea to open the door like that, but the security screen is locked. I an not sure why I open the door, I suspect it is curiosity or the fact that I have had relatives ring my doorbell at odd hours of the day and night.

Normally, when this happens I go back to bed (or in my case I lay down on the couch) and go back to sleep. This morning I could not go back to sleep because I was wide awake and I have projects that I have to complete today. I will take a nap this afternoon if I get sleepy, otherwise I will pack couple of trunks and finish some writing projects.

It was a good morning

When I got up, it was a good morning. Now I'm not sure, however, I reserve the right to change my mind about that. I don't know that I will change my mind because once the mood of the morning changes from good to difficult, it usually remains difficult.

After the morning
mood changes from good to bad
a long day ahead.

Morning on the day of Beauty

Jamál (Beauty), 9 Kamál (Perfection), 166 BE – Sunday, August 9, 2009 about 6:36 AM Pacific Time

It's morning on the day of beauty and the sun is lighting up the inside of my garage. Illuminating the doors waiting for me to have them reinstalled, if I'm going to have them put on the master bedroom and bathroom entrances. The master bedroom had one of those accordion-like doors, which was removed a few years ago.

The bathroom is divided into the vanity part and the bathroom. The vanity room has a curtain in front of it while between the vanity and the bathroom is another accordion door. The door doesn't lock, but it closes. We broke the lock on that door four or five years ago when it was inadvertently locked and we couldn't get in.

Every morning the sun comes up and shines into my garage illuminating those doors. Every morning I consider having the doors reinstalled and that's as far as it gets. I guess if I haven't had them rehung by now, I'm not going to do it. Therefore, I should move them so I can put something else in that spot. Perhaps I should investigate how much it would cost me to have them rehung, there must be a handy man in Las Vegas that can do that type of work.
