Wednesday Afternoon

A pristine blue sky,
and a slight chill in the air
engenders thoughts of spring,
while encouraging gratitude's prayer
for another interesting winter day.

Winter Afternoon

A chilly breeze
blows through the palm trees,
clouds decorate the blue sky,
and I pray
giving thanks
for another beautiful
winter day.

Autumn Afternoon

The chill in the air
foretells the coming winter,
with its promises of snow
on Mount Charleston.

Will there be snow this year?
Will the changing climate
cause the weather to warm,
and any snow that does fall to melt?

The chill in the air
suggests a normal winter
for the Las Vegas area.
Will it last?

Saturday Afternoon Thoughts

Saturday afternoon temperatures rise
into the triple digits
sending locals into cool homes
and tourist into casinos.

Saturday afternoon
and I give thanks
for the inspiration
Las Vegas provides.

An Afternoon in March

The rain has stopped
gray clouds cover the sky
promising more rain,
a chilly wind blows through
palm and olive trees
giving the feeling of winter,
but spring is on the way.

Late Afternoon Drive: Autumn Memory

Leafless limbs
Bid good night to the day

Islands drift
Across the azure sky

A dragon
Upside down between islands

A couple
Walk hand-in-hand

Palm trees' hair
Blow away from their faces

Waving flags
Welcome the setting sun

Green pine limbs
Beckon the rising moon

Morning Nap

Jamal (Beauty), 11 Asmá’ (Names), 172 BE - Sunday, August 30, 2015 about 12:14 pm

I know
that afternoon naps
are normal
and recommended,
but today
I took a morning nap.

I didn't intend
to doze off
when I set down on the couch
to meditate
and pray.

I said a prayer for forgiveness
then leaned back
to contemplate
the words.

I closed my eyes
to shut out the morning
so that I could focus
on experiencing
the presence
of the Holy Spirit.

I dozed off,
woke up
a few minutes later
feeling refreshed.

Tuesday Afternoon Free Write

Fidal (Grace), 4 Kamál (Perfection), 172 BE - Tuesday, August 4, 2015 about 6:12 pm Pacific Daylight Time

I haven't made an entry in this blog since July 31 because I can't think of an idea. So this afternoon I put on another carafe of coffee tow see if that would help me think. While the coffee was brewing I washed the dishes, which sometimes helps me think of of a theme. The dishes didn't work and I'm not sure if the coffee will work either.

I sit down at the computer to work. I open a document and I stare at the screen without writing anything. I'm even having problems with this free write because my mind has drawn a blank. I don't have any problems writing in the mornings, it's just afternoon writing that gives me problems. I think for the next week or so I'll use prompts for my afternoon writing sessions. I can respond to a prompt any time of the day or the night without difficulties.

This morning I begin an exercise class which scheduled for two days a week. The class cuts into writing time, but I need the exercise. The only exercise I get lately is taking the trash to the alley, which isn't enough exercise. I'm going to close this now because I can't seem to think of anything else to write.

A sleepy Sunday Afternoon

Jamál (Beauty), 6 Jalál (Glory), 170 BE - Sunday, April 14, 2013 about 5:45 PM Pacific Daylight Time

I keep yawning. I'm so sleepy that I want to lay my head on the computer keyboard and go to sleep. I don't know what's wrong because I took a nap about 12:30 PM.  I've finished the coffee leftover from yesterday, so the only thing left to drink is the grape juice in the refrigerator, hot tea, or water.  I think the only tea I have in the house is decaffeinated tea or herb tea. I don't think that is going to keep me awake.

Perhaps, I should just give up and take a nap. When I wake up I can finish printing off the items I need for tomorrow. I'm too sleepy to focus on anything except a nap. I will be so glad when I find an apartment and can purchase a bed. Sleeping on the couch is less painful then on my mattress, but I don't think I'm getting the proper amount of sleep. Maybe being sleepy has more to do with resting then the proper amount of sleep.

I haven't had any dreams I could remember for a couple of weeks. I rest better when I remember my dreams, even if those dreams are confusing. I think I will close this entry, turn off the television, and lay down for another nap. At least, I will after putting the spaghetti I made for lunch in the refrigerator.

That Time of Afternoon in Las Vegas

Fidál (Grace), 19 Qawl (Speech), 169 BE – Tuesday, December 11, 2012 about 1:60 P.M. Pacific Time

It’s that time of afternoon, when weariness sets in. That time of day, when not matter how many cups of coffee I drink both my body and mind want a nap. I have so much writing and housework to do that I don’t want to go to sleep. Unfortunately, my body wants a short nap.

I’m tired. I’m yawning. I want to get away from the computer and doze off for a little while. I don’t want to sleep very long because I have work to do. Tonight is the Feast of Questions and I want to be awake enough to drive to the Feast and back safely.

I suppose the only thing to do is to pick up my prayer book and go to the couch. If I don’t take a nap I’m going to continue to node and yawn. Since I want to attend feast I will let this be that time of afternoon when I nap.

A good Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas

Jamál (Beauty), 18 ‘Azamat (Grandeur), 169 BE – Sunday, June 3, 2012 about 5:45 PM Pacific Time

It’s a good Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, which is nice because this morning wasn’t that great. However, after taking a short nap on the couch the day improved quite a bit. I sat down on the couch to watch T.V. and went to sleep. Mom was sitting in her wheelchair beside the couch, but she didn’t wake me up.

It wasn’t a long nap, it was just long enough for me to rest. I do this every day, so I think the best solution is to lie down rather then sit and watch T.V. because I always go to sleep that way in the afternoon.

It’s a good Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, Mom walks better then she did the last two day. She seems to be feeling better because she wanted to get out of her wheelchair without the walker. She also decided she wanted to go to bed early. She still has another pill to take, but not until latter this evening. I’ll have to wake her up when I give it to her.

I don’t expect to have difficulty giving her the pill because today she takes her meds without an argument. Usually, Mom argues about taking the meds. She also wants to chew them instead of swallowing them with water. The problem with that is that two of the meds are in capsule form and she should not chew them. Oh well, that’s life.

An Afternoon Nap

Kamál (Perfection), 16 Kamál (Perfection), 167 BE – Monday, August 16, 2010 about 2:54 PM Pacific Time

I have begun taking afternoon naps because for the past couple of days I stay up until after midnight. I don't get to bed until 12:30 or 1:00 in the morning and still get up when the alarm goes off at 4:00 AM. I could change the alarm, but I would rather take an afternoon nap. If I sit on the couch and doze, I don't sleep very long and I still wake up refreshed.

Afternoon nap

Istiqlál (Independence), 2 Asmá’ (Names), 166 BE – Friday, August 21, 2009 about 4:30 PM Pacific Time

I took a nap. It wasn't a long nap just about an hour, but I feel refreshed. Before the nap, I was sitting at the computer and I could hardly keep my eyes open. So I turned the computer off, took my teeth out and went to bed. Before I went to sleep, I said prayers.

I'm not sure whether I dreamed or not. I suspect I probably, but I don't remember the dreams. Sometimes, I remember the dreams that accompany my afternoon naps and sometimes I don't. I suppose if I took a nap more often I'd remember my dreams.

I have to go put my teeth in again. When I woke up I came directly to the computer without stopping to put my teeth in my mouth. I always took my teeth out when I lay down for a nap or when I go to sleep at night.

Sometimes I set on the couch or love seat and doze. I don't take my teeth out then because I don't sleep for more then five minutes. However, laying down for an afternoon nap is different because I usually sleep for more then thirty minutes. My afternoon naps usually last about an hour, perhaps a little more. I think today's nap lasted about an hour and a half.

Sleep refreshes the
mind and body like prayer
refreshes the soul.

An afternoon nap
allows my mind to relax
the day goes better.
