Will the changing climate
cause the weather to warm,
and any snow that does fall to melt?

A Glacial Wind

It is a sunny and clear 44 degrees here in Las Vegas. The wind, which is about 5 mph, feels as if it is blowing off a glacier. I went out to get the mail and my feet felt as if they were freezing. Alright,
I shouldn't wear flip-flops in the winter time. Since I don't have any
other shoes that fit, I need to start wearing socks so that my toes
don't get cold.

don't miss Oklahoma in the winter time. I like living in Las Vegas
because if I want to play in the snow, I can drive up to Mount Charleston,
which I'm not going to do until I can get new tires for my car. Come to
think of it, even if I had new tires, I wouldn't drive up to The
Mountain this time of year. If someone else offered to take me up their,
in their car, I would go, but I'm not going to drive myself or let
anyone drive my car up their.

Meditation Monday: Meditation on Sunset

The sunset behind Mount Charleston,
one day ends
as another begins
without fan-fair
or noisy celebration.
As the sunsets
the sky is transformed
from deep blue,
to pale blue,
to off white,
and then to black;
the sky is transformed peacefully
and calmly
from day
into night.
As the sunsets
behind Mount Charleston
the street lights come on
driving darkness outside
their pools of light,
shifts change,
people go home to rest,
but Las Vegas never sleeps.

Feeling like autumn in Las Vegas

It’s beginning to feel like autumn in Las Vegas. Today the clouds cover the sky and hide the sun. It feels damp and slightly chilly. The temperature in the house is 75 degrees. It’s a depressing day. It’s a day that hints at the coming of winter.
It’s beginning to feel like fall in Las Vegas. This morning was chilly. Mom complained about the cold this morning. It didn’t feel cold to me. The morning felt damp, which suggested a chilly temperature.
It’s beginning to feel like autumn in Las Vegas. I don’t think we have reached freezing temperatures at night, but the leaves on my next door neighbor’s oak tree are beginning to change colors. It will soon be looking like fall in Las Vegas.
It’s beginning to feel like fall in Las Vegas. Each day I go out and look up at Mount Charleston. I’m looking for snow on the mountain. Every day I expect to see Mount Charleston’s crest covered with a layer of snow. One of these days, I won’t be disappointed. I’m looking forward to see the Mountain’s snow capped crest.

I’m looking forward to a warm house

I remember having fun in snow. When I was a child, I didn’t notice the cold. I went out and enjoyed the snow. Now, I enjoy sitting inside a warm house and watching the snow accumulate on the ground outside. We haven’t had any snow in Las Vegas, but it has snow on Mount Charleston.
One of the things I enjoy about winter in Las Vegas is looking up to the mountain and seeing snow. I have no desire to drive up there a play in the snow. I enjoy looking up and seeing Mount Charleston’s white crest. I also enjoy being in a warm house, rather I will enjoy this as soon as the heat pump is fixed.
The techs are coming on Wednesday, between 8:00 and 10:00 AM to fix the unit. I am going to enjoy a warm house and taking a bath in a warm house. I may even wash my hair if it gets warm enough. I’ve missed the warmth and it hasn’t been cold in Las Vegas. After the heat pump is fixed I’ll worry about paying the electricity bill this winter, but right now I just want to be warm.

Spring has Sprung

The sun crossed the vernal equinox and spring arrived in all her glory. Despite the fact that winter is holding on tenaciously, today is the first day of spring and in a few weeks summer will arrive. There is still snow covering the Rocky Mountains, in fact the ski area on Mount Charleston is still open and people are snow skiing.
It seems a bit chilly in Las Vegas, but this is the first day of spring. The wind is blowing, which means a wind chill factor. The sun is shining and there are clouds in the sky. It is a nice day in Las Vegas, you just have to remember to put on a sweater or long sleeved shirt when you go outside.

Another Pink Sunset

I looked out my window and saw the clouds transform from pale white to pastel pink. It reminded me of Oklahoma. Lately almost all sunsets remind me of winter in Oklahoma. This time of year, we woke up looking forward to seeing snow on the ground.
In Las Vegas, it seldom snows in the valley. Mount Charleston has gotten snow so the skiers are happy. I miss the snow, but not enough to drive to Mount Charleston to play in it. I'd rather use the gas for something else, perhaps a trip to the mall to buy chocolate.

A Beautiful December Evening in Las Vegas

Sunset approaches turning the sky from blue to blueish-white. It is a warm 61 degrees at this time, but it will get cooler. I say cooler because it seldom gets extremely cold in Las Vegas. True it does snow on Mount Charleston, but Las Vegas is in the valley so we don't get a lot of snow down here.
I miss the snow. If I want to see snow or play in it, I have to drive to Mount Charleston and driving to the mountain when it snows means putting chains on the car. I have never bought chains for any car I've driven. I have never put chains on the tires of a car. Perhaps I've missed something, I wouldn't know.
I could fly to Colorado, I talked to my brother today (the one who lives in Colorado) and he said they're expecting snow. I have no intention of going to Colorado in December. Since I can't go to the snow and it isn't going to snow in the valley, I'll just have to dream or write about snow.
