t began
by whispering
through the olive tree,
it shouted through the stone pine limbs,
the windchill froze
the marrow in my bones,
and sent ice spiders
crawling
up my spine.
Goose bumps rose on my bare arms,
and not even
a sweater could warm me;
I remembered winter
in Oklahoma.

My Name In Print: A Memory
Seeing my name in print,
sends chills up my spine!
Is this my thirty seconds of fame,
or is that saved for another time?

White Recliner: A Memory
I always think of Grandpa Newland,
whenever I see a white recliner.
I remember him setting in one,
with the Siamese cat beside him and the dog in his lap,
watching TV.
Grandpa enjoyed setting there
with Jay beside him and Cindi or Popcorn in his lap,
watching The Grand Old Opera.
I, also, posted this in the journal Writing in Snow, under the folder Awardicon Items, in my writing.com portfolio. Visit My Portfolio @ Writing.Com

Hazelnut Gourmet Coffee: A Memory
The aroma of the deep forest awakens nature's child,
rousing the ecologist hibernating
under layers of materialism.
The taste of autumn's bounty caresses my tongue,
flows down my throat,
warming each passing blood vessel,
and spills into my body's furnace
to ignite the day's activity.

Blessing or Curse
Memory can be
a blessing or a curse;
it depends on us.
We can dwell
on bad recollections
and be unhappy.
Or we can
focus on good memories
and be happy.

Late Afternoon Drive: Autumn Memory
Leafless limbs
Bid good night to the day
Islands drift
Across the azure sky
A dragon
Upside down between islands
A couple
Walk hand-in-hand
Palm trees' hair
Blow away from their faces
Waving flags
Welcome the setting sun
Green pine limbs
Beckon the rising moon
Bid good night to the day
Islands drift
Across the azure sky
A dragon
Upside down between islands
A couple
Walk hand-in-hand
Palm trees' hair
Blow away from their faces
Waving flags
Welcome the setting sun
Green pine limbs
Beckon the rising moon

A Mudgy Memory
‘Idál (Justice), 14 Bahá (Splendor), 170 BE - Wednesday, April 3, 2013 about 5:35 AM Pacific Daylight Time
I am reading The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. In Chapter 11, Ms Didion writes about her daughter, Quintana, using the word mudgy to refer to her sketchy memory about her stay in a hospital. The word Quintana meant was smudgy, as I was reading I realized that mudgy was a good description of some of my memory issues.
Since November 29, 2012, I have dealt with mudgy memories, memories that seemed to be missing pieces that should be there. I think back to the day, weeks, and months before Mom passed. I try to determine if I encountered the same issues then, but I don't think I did. I think the missing memory sections began after Mom passed.
I am frightened! Mom had Alzheimer's disease and I am afraid that the memory issues may be more the simply the stress of Mom's passing. I am afraid that the memory issues may be a sign of the disease that took Mom's memory. I hope and I pray that my mudgy memory is just a sign of stress and that once I have learned to deal with the stress issues my memory will be back to normal.

Renaming the cats
Fidál (Grace), 2 Mashíyyat (Will), 167 BE – Tuesday, September 28, 2010 about 2:45 PM Pacific Time
Mom has memory issues, as a results she forgot that the cats have names; therefore, she has decided to give the cats names. I am going along with this because otherwise Mom would get angry. I suspect this is just another manifestation of the Alzheimer's disease.
The cats' original names are Midnight, Prince, and Beauty, while their new names are Ralf, Henry, and Matilda. Since I am the one who makes the appointments with the veterinarian, it doesn't matter what names Mom gives them. When I make t appointments I give the name or names that are on the records at the Vets. I suppose the next time we go to the Veterinarian clinic, I should inform the office help and the veterinarian about he cats new names.
The cats names are now Ralf Midnight, Prince Henry, and Matilda Beauty or is that Midnight Ralf, Henry Prince, and Beauty Matilda. Those sound like good names for characters, perhaps I should use them in my upcoming NaNoWriMo novel.

Is this a sign of a short-term memory problem?
Kamál (Perfection), 11 Baha (Splendor), 165 B.E. – Monday, March 31, 2008 about 7:42 AM PDT
I worry about my memory sometimes. Is my short-term memory is going or am I just distracted? I have no problems remembering login names and passwords not even when I change the password. The problem this morning is coffee. My coffee cup sets on a wooden T.V. stand beside my computer desk.
Anyway, I reached for the cup and started to drink the coffee in it. However, there was no coffee; I drank the entire cup of hot 100% Columbian brew and didn't remember drinking it. Now I'm worried about my short-term memory. Not that I don't have other, probably, more important things to worry about.
I'm a writer and a coffee drinker so does not remembering I drink the coffee in my cup a sign of a problem. I don't know, I certainly hope not. I guess as long as I can remember my login names, passwords and bank pin numbers, I'm all right.
