Listening to Spiritual Music

Listen to the joy
of praising the Lord
in song and watch the video
and your attitude will change
from depression to praise.

Bagpipes

"The pipes, the pipes are playing..."
The music of my soul,
Chords that fall like raindrops
from mountain crest and castle wall,
Wild notes from highland battles
         echoing both victory and defeat.

"The pipes, the pipes are calling..."
To my genetic roots;
Recalling ancestral memories
from glen and moor and bog,
Memories of Gaelic gods and goddesses
worshiped in Erin, in Scotland, in Man.

"The pipes, the pipes are marching..."
To a new song in this day,
To a song of unity, faith, and freedom,
A song that all humanity can sing.

The Music of Children

In the music of children,
we live in unity:
One God, one race, one religion.

God lives in the music of children,
in the songs of the purified heart
God is reality.

A breath from the Kingdom of Glory,
carries the scent of the sanctified soul
in the music of children.

Getting Through the Day

Getting through the day
I pause to say a prayer,
listen to music:
attempt to drive away the blues.

Oriental Echoes: To Machout

Written while listening to Quant en moy.

Oriental echoes
Clash with the rising west,
Strings and voices via for attention,
Rising in unity voice echoes voice.

Midweek Reflections on the Effect of Music on my mood

'Idál (Justice), 6 Sharaf (Honor), 173 BE - Wednesday, January 4, 2017 AD about 11:16 AM Pacific Standard Time

To say that I started out the morning a bit depressed is an understatement.  I was descending into my normal January brown study and blogging about it in my writing.com blog. Two of the blog prompts I responded to today lent themselves to the subject. After I responded and posted those entries to the proper blog groups I checked the wirting.com newsfeed. There was a community challenge to listen to the song Celebration by Cool & The Gang and then write a response of some type. I chose to put my response, which was a free verse poem, in my writing.com blog.

As I listened to the music, I realized that my mood was changing. The fog of my January depression was lifting. I write the poem Celebration: Scattering the Darkness and posted it in my writing.com blog. After listening to the music and writing the poem, I'm feeling much more confident and a lot happier. I still have the same problems I did before I listened to the music, but now I can see clearly enough to figure out a solution. Depression doesn't help finding a solution to anything, in fact it makes the depressing situation worse because it hides the solution behind the fog of fear.

Meditation Monday: Silence, Tranquility, and Music

Kamal (Perfection), 1 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 171 BE - Monday, March 2, 2015 about 4:59 pm Pacific Standard Time

Silence encourages meditation and prayer. The house is never noise free, but sometimes the neighbors music stops pounding through the walls and the house becomes tranquil. At these times my mind feels the tranquility that accompanies the absence of modern music. I know that the music I listened to as a teenager and young adult was just as loud and distracting as that played by young adults today. I know that sometimes my parents and grandparents or their friends would shake their heads when I payed my music, but they never said anything to me about it. Therefore, I do not complain about the music I hear my neighbor play.

There are times during the day when I wish my neighbor would pick a different genre of music. I suspect my parents thought the same thing when I payed my music, but they never said anything. I know that my neighbor enjoys his music just as much I enjoyed and still enjoy mine. I accept all kinds of music because it reflects the culture and background of the individual.

As I write this the music has started again. The music is not as loud as before and this is the way the music goes all day. It starts, a song plays, it stops for a bit, and starts again at a lower volume. I think both my neighbor and I need to find jobs that get us out of the house during the day. I know that I need some time away from my apartment and I am sure he does as well.

Some of his music I enjoy listening to, but not all of it. There are some songs that are offensive; however, I am not the one playing the music. If it gets too offensive then I can t take a short walk to the alley. The problem with the offensive music is that it interferes with prayer and meditation. I have a blanket to put over my head so that I can cut down on visual distractions when I meditate. I think I need to purchase earplugs to cut down on auditory distractions.

A Long and Weary Day in Las Vegas

Fiḍál (Grace), 13 Kamál (Perfection), 170 BE - Tuesday, August 13, 2013 about Sunset Pacific Daylight Time

It's been a long and weary, or perhaps I should say worry, day. I'm tired. I should log off, say some prayers, and go to sleep. I plan to spend at least two hours on hold tomorrow attempting to get some help with my power bill. I don't know if I will get help. I don't know if I will do anything except listen to hold music, but I'll try.

I suppose I could go into another rant about all the difficulty I've had, attempting to get assistance. I doubt that another rant would help. It won't help find money for the bill and it will just make me more depressed. I think I will attempt to write a blog entry or two while I'm on hold tomorrow. I don't know what subject I'll write about, but I will attempt to write a blog entry.  I don't have the patience to wait on hold unless I have something else to do besides listen to the silly music.

I discovered YouTube

Istiqlál (Independence), 12 Qawl (Speech), 166 BE – Friday, December 4, 2009 about 9:24 AM Pacific Time

I have DSL and recently discovered YouTube. All right, I've known YouTube existed for a long time, but when I subscribed to a dial-up connection there was not use accessing that website. However, now that I have DSL I can enjoy the videos.

Christmas time is a wonderful time to listen and watch videos because of the music. I don't celebrate Christmas, but I do listen the Christmas music. Christmas music brings back memories of my childhood. Christmas music encourages my muse to write poetry.

Christmas songs echo
through my mind encouraging
childhood's memories.

I just received weird call

The phone ring, I saved the MSWord document, then got up and went to the phone. I reached the phone before the fourth ring, which is an accomplishment since the phone (the voice mail picks up on the fourth ring) is in the breakfast room and my computer is in the living room.

I said hello and the only thing I heard was music. It was nice, pleasant canned music and I hung the phone up. I do not have a telephone to listen to music. If I want to listen to music, I have a radio, I have a television, I have a computer and can use one of those items.

I am presuming that whoever dialed my number will call back. When they do call back, a living human being had better be on the other end. I have not intention of listening to music when someone else calls me and then puts me on hold.

If I make the call, then yes I will wait on hold, at least, until the battery in my phone goes dead. I will not wait on hold when someone else calls me.

I need to go to a play

Istiqlál (Independence), 7 Kamál (Perfection), 166 BE – Friday, August 7, 2009 about 2:55 PM Pacific Time

What is your favorite musical or play? What is it about that production that you like?

I need to go to a play, specifically a musical because when I see a musical, I relax, listen and watch the action on stage. I forget about my problems. At a musical the only thing I need to do is sit there and watch. I don't have to worry about anything or think about anything except the action on the stage.

The last play I went to was Sweeny Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which was several years ago. In fact, it was before 2007 when my mother went into the hospital. I haven't been to a musical play since and think I need to go. I need to get out more ofter. My mother needs to get out more often. We both enjoy plays; therefore, I need to find one that we can go to within the next couple of months. My favorite musical play is Sweeny Todd and I enjoyed the songs.

A Daylight Savings Time Tradition

Jamál (Beauty), 7 ‘Alá (Loftiness), 165 BE – Sunday, March 8, 2009 about 3:30 PM Pacific Time

Some people have New Year's traditions, some have Christmas traditions, some have Thanksgiving traditions, but I have a Daylight Savings Time tradition. I never set my clock ahead in the spring before going to bed on Saturday night. I never get up at 2:00 AM to set my clock ahead; instead I wait until I get up on Sunday to set my clock ahead.

Springing the clock forward isn't difficult. I have only one clock I have to reset. The computer automatically adjusts itself (I want a self-adjusting clock). I still have to set my clock ahead today, but I have a good excuse for waiting so late in the day to do it.

I'm moving my clock from the living room into my bedroom and I don't want to reset the clock twice. I can't hear the alarm clock if it's in the living room, so I have to move it to the bedroom so that I can hear the radio alarm go off. Right now, the radio is set to a talk station. However, I think I will eventually change that. I'm not sure just yet what station I want the alarm set to.

I'm considering changing the alarm to a music station, but I don't know which music station. Talk stations don't do much to wake me up, unless it's set to a station with an early morning shock jock. The voice of the talk show host or the message has to be irritating enough to wake me up and get me moving otherwise I just turn the radio off and go back to sleep.

Music that has a good beat like rock or jazz wakes me up and gets me moving. Neither easy listening nor religious music does much to wake me up. The music I listen to has to get me out of bed and get me moving. I'm going to have to try several stations before I find one that does the job.

Listening to Music

Istiqlál (Independence), 14 ‘Azamat (Grandeur), 165 B.E. – Friday, May 30, 2008 about 7:20 PM PDT

I enjoy listening to music. Music speaks directly to the soul. Depending on the type of music it either makes me happy or sad. My favorite instrument is bagpipes. Every time I hear them, I want to cry. The sound of a flute has a completely different affect on me. Flute music makes me happy, every time I hear a flute I feel joyful and want to smile and laugh.

I listened to music this morning. The instrument was a key board, which could make the sound of many different instruments. The music was beautiful and I left the music room smiling. All in all, my morning was wonderful.
