On a Cold and Windy Saturday in December

On this cold and windy Saturday in December,
the ice cream truck just drove by my house.

I heard the music playing
as he approached
with all his sweet cold treats that
in summer I would buy,
but today
it is too cold for an ice cream cone.

I think I'm getting old because today it's too cold for ice cream. The other day, I stopped at Marie Calender's to purchase a rhubarb pie. After I purchased the pie, I went to the grocery store to get a few necessities. I did not purchase any ice cream (which I normally eat on rhubarb pie) because it's winter and the ice cream with the pie would chill me.

When I was younger it didn't matter how cold it was outside if I wanted ice cream. I can remember eating ice cream on a snowy Christmas Eve because it was my birthday and I liked ice cream with my birthday cake. However, at 66 going on 67 I have stopped eating ice cream in the winter time. Now, when I eat pie or cake in the winter, I put milk on it and warm it in the microwave.

Sunday epiphany

I baked a chocolate cake in the microwave today. I mixed the cake according to the directions on the box and then put it into a microwavable casserole dish because I don't have anything else to use for cakes when I put them in the microwave. It took the cake nine minutes to bake and I'm waiting for it to cool enough to ice.

When I smelled the cake baking, I realized that I don't want to bake cakes any other way. The cake smelled the same as it would in a conventional oven, but I could smell the cake sooner in the microwave. I like baking cakes in microwaves, especially in summer when I don't want to use a regular oven. I also like baking in a microwave in winter because I don't have to wait as long for the item to bake.

Mom got up without help today

Last night was difficult for Mom. She got sick because she took some of her medication without eating. It is also possible she ate too many sweets yesterday. I thought I would have a difficult time getting her up this morning, but she got out of bed without any urging from me.

This morning she got up and came into the living room. I pointed out the bouquet of roses Mom received for her 90th birthday. Then we went back into Mom’s bedroom so she could change cloths. I found a pair of slacks that were too big for her; therefore, she decided to wear a dress.

Despite the fact that Mom had a rough night, she is in a good mood this morning. She took her first three meds without any fuss. I give her the meds after she began eating breakfast. I am watching her closely to see is she is still eating because she has three more tablets to take this morning. Then she has three and one-half tablets for lunch and six more with her evening meal. I hope she takes the rest of the meds easily today.

I have to watch what she eats closely today because there is still some birthday cake leftover. This morning she does not seem interested in the cake, but later today, she may ask for a piece.

It's Saturday again

Well, it's Saturday again,

January 2008 is almost at an end.

I have encountered both successes and failures in the past week and in January. The failure teach lessons, which later successes are based on. I'm still thanking about the lessons I've learned this week and month. One f the most important is to look for the answers to prayers. Never presume that a prayer isn't answered simply because you don't get the answer you want I think I've encountered the before, but I seem to forget the lesson periodically and have to be taught it again.

Now to the success and thing's I've never did before. I had a peanut butter cookie mix I needed to make this past week, but my oven isn't working. I mixed the dough and fixed it in the Microwave. I fixed it as a cake rather then cookies and it turned out well. I enjoyed fixing the mix and figuring out how to get it to work in the Microwave, especially since I didn't have a proper cookie sheet for that oven. I think fixing the cookies the way I did was an interesting success.

I did it I Baked a Cake in a Microwave

I finally did it, I baked a cake in a Microwave. It took ten minutes to bake the cake. I used a packaged cake mix, rather then baking it from scratch. The cake was a little dry, but I think that was because of the mix and not baking it in a Microwave. Other then being dry, the cake tasted all right.

I have another cake mix and a pumpkin bread kit in the cupboard. I also have peanut butter cookie mix in the fridge. I'm not sure what I'll try next, maybe the cookies and maybe the pumpkin bread kit. I like using a Microwave because it doesn't take long and I can get back to something else quickly.

I'm not sure what my grandmother would say about using a Microwave to bake a cake. She made her cakes from scratch most of the time, but sometimes she would buy a prepackaged cake mix. She would probably approve, she always liked to try the latest technology.
