Short autumn days and early morning trash collection

Fidál (Grace), 12 ‘Ilm (Knowledge), 166 BE – Tuesday, October 27, 2009 about 7:35 AM Pacific Time

Tomorrow is Wednesday and the trashcans have to be on the curb by 7:00 AM. The days are getting shorter, so I am going to take the cans to the curb tonight before sunset. If I wait until morning, the trashcans will remain in the garage because in autumn and winter it is too dark before 7:00 AM to lug the cans to the curb.

The morning's darkness
lengthens evening's to do list
the trash must go out.

Wednesday is trash pick up day in my neighborhood

Fidál (Grace), 6 Asmá’ (Names), 166 BE – Tuesday, August 25, 2009 about 10:01 AM Pacific Time

Wednesday, August 26, the Republic Service trucks come through my neighborhood. They start there run through my section of town about 7:00 AM. Sometimes they empty the trashcans along our curb between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, other times the can set there until afternoon waiting for them to empty it. Once or twice in the past ten years, they missed our block.

Anyway, today I'm going to have to go through the house and find all the indoor trash baskets and empty them. I suspect I'll miss on trash basket today because I always miss one. Republic Services does a better job of emptying the trashcans along the curb then I do emptying the indoor trashcans.

I think my problem with the trash basket has to do with one getting moved. There are two people living in my house. One of us moves the trash basket periodically, I think that's why I miss one every week. Fortunately, the trash basket I miss is one that doesn't have garbage with an odor. My goal is to get every trash basket in the house emptied either on Tuesday or Friday, so I can take the stuff to the curb the next morning.

I didn't get the trash out today

Jalál (Glory), 19 Jamál (Beauty), 166 BE – Saturday, May 16, 2009 about 10:09 AM Pacific Time

I didn't get the trash out today, which means I'm going to have to start lugging it to the curb on Wednesday and Friday evenings. This, of course, is until I start using my new plastic trashcan. The new can has rollers on it, so I don't have to worry about lugging anything to the curb. I can just roll it out to the curb.

The new trashcan is sitting in my living room waiting for me to put my address on it. I also need to get the garage door fixed. All though, I guess I could put the new trashcan on the back patio (it's enclosed) and roll it to the curb that way. I still have to put my address on it before I use it though.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the aluminum cans yet, but I may just put a note on them and let the garbage truck drivers take them away. That would make more room in the garage and I wouldn't have to deal with the aluminum trashcans any more. I'll talk to my yard guy about it the next time I see him because he may just want to use the aluminum cans for yard trash.

I am tired of cold weather

‘Idál (Justice), 10 ‘Alá (Loftiness), 165 BE – Wednesday, March 11, 2009 about 9:15 AM Pacific Time

I am tired of cold weather. Spring is a little over a week away and I want warm weather. I want to take the trashcans to the curb on Wednesday mornings without having to put a ski jacket on to keep me warm. It is light enough now; I can take the trashcans to the curb on the day they pick up the trash instead of the night before.

I took the trash out this morning between 6:30 and 7:00 AM it was cold. It is cold enough here in Las Vegas that I have not turned the heat off yet. Normally I turn the heat of about March 1 and leave the central air off until sometime in April. I tried turning the heat off and it was too cold to leave it that way.

Since the power bill has not crested $300.00 this winter, I have no room to gripe. Still it is colder then last March. If I turn, the central air unit up any more then the power bill will be out of my budget. Yes, I have a budget; I have changed the budget spreadsheet to a monthly focus because it is easier to work on.

It’s been a productive morning

This is what happens when I get up about 2:00 AM. Of course, I did go to bed early last night and for once in a long time, I went right to sleep. I was tired, but I'm not sure that's the reason I went to sleep immediately. I think the reason I went to sleep when I did, was lack of worry. For once I wasn't worried about anything.

This morning I emptied the cat litter boxes and put in fresh litter. I made coffee and wrote three blog entries. I then went outside, picked up the morning paper and carried a bag of trash to the curb. The trashcans were taken out yesterday, so all I had to do this morning was take out one bag.

Mom has a doctor's appointment this afternoon at 1:00 PM, she is going to have cataract surgery. I will bring her home and fix something to eat. Mom couldn't eat this morning because of the surgery this afternoon. I think I'll fix some hot dogs, eggs and potatoes. Mom likes those foods, actually Mom likes anything. She's not happy about not being able to eat this morning, but if she eats then the surgery must be rescheduled and she wouldn't like that.

Saturday Morning Trash Issues

Jalál (Glory), 18 Asma (Names), 165 B.E. – Saturday, September 6, 2008 about 6:55 AM Pacific Time

As anyone who has every read any of my blog entries about trash knows, I have issues concerning getting the trash to the curb before the garbage trucks come to empty the cans. I have difficulty lugging the trashcans out early Wednesday and Saturday mornings. I have less problems in summer then I do in winter.

Dawn arrives earlier in summer then in winter. It is easier getting trashcans to the curb before 7:00 AM when the sun is up. This morning I lugged one can to the curb, I have four beat-up aluminum trashcans and the goal is to get, at least, one to the curb on trash day. Next Saturday is recyclable day, so I will focus on getting the recyclables to the curb then the trashcans. We seem to have more recyclables then regular trash anyway.

Maybe it's a good thing to have more recyclables then regular trash, it means we are more aware of the environment. Having more recyclables means a greater awareness of your carbon footprint on the planet. I still have a long way to go when it comes to recycling, but I'm getting there slowly.

When I was growing up, there were no issues about separating your trash into recyclables and non-recyclables. Everything went into the same trashcan and on trash day, which occurred only one day a week, we took everything to either the alley or the curb.

I have to admit, that I enjoy the process of separating trash into recyclables and non-recyclables. Overcoming the desire to take the easy way by throwing everything into a plastic trash bag strengthens a person's will power. It isn't always easy to carry a recyclable item to the garage and put it in a recyclable bin. It's much easier to just put it in a plastic trash bag and take the bag to the garage a the end of the day.

I Do Not Have to Lug Trash out to the Curb Today

‘Idál (Justice), 13 Kamal (Perfection), 165 B.E. – Wednesday, August 13, 2008 about 6:12 AM PDT

I do not have to lug trashcans to the curb today. I am elated. The yard was cleaned up Sunday and the trash taken to the curb for pickup today. I can put off taking any more trash out until Friday evening or Saturday morning, which is great because I am just managing to completely wake up.

I spent yesterday working the Primary Election. I arrived at my assigned station a little before 6:00 AM on Tuesday, August 12. I remained there until after 7:00 PM and worked as a clerk. I took my lunch and some snacks with me, plus several bottles of water. When I arrived home last night, I went directly to bed.

When I go to bed early, no matter how tired I am when I get in bed, I get up early. I got up early today, true I sit on the love seat, said prayers and dozed for a little while, but I did get up early. The interesting thing about last night, is that I went to sleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow. When I woke up this morning, I could not focus on what to take out to the trash or on lugging the cans to the curb.

After the garbage trucks pick-up the trash, I put the trashcans in the garage and begin filling them for Saturday's pick-up. Mom was home all day yesterday doing what she likes to do best, which is clean house. Therefore, she did not get any trash out to the garage. That is all right with me because I would rather she did not carry trash to the garage at her age.

Tomorrow is Trash Pick-up Day

Fidál (Grace), 15 Rahmat (Mercy), 165 BE – Tuesday, July 8, 2008 about 6:27 PM PDT

Tomorrow Wednesday, July 9, 2008, is trash pick-up day in my neighborhood. Trash pick-up days, which occur on Wednesday and Saturday, are always challenges for me. I never seem to get all the trash out to the curb. Of course, I only have four small aluminum trashcans and not a large plastic one that rolls.

I have to lug my cans to the curb rather then roll them, so that is a bit of a challenge itself. Rolling a plastic trash container to the curb is much easier then carrying an aluminum trashcan. Sometimes those cans get heavy and I don't like to carry them out in the dark. That means I have to either take them out the night before or wait until the sun comes up.

Taking the trash out on Wednesday and Saturday mornings is not a problem in spring or summer, but it is in fall and winter. In spring and summer the sun comes up before 7:00 AM, so I can get the trashcans out between 6:00 and 6:30 AM. In fall and winter, when there is a later sunrise I have to take the trashcans out the night before, which is only a problem if it is windy.

Fortunately, it is summer now therefore I can wait until morning to take the trashcans to the curb. I like this because it encourages me to get my morning started early. Tomorrow I will make coffee as soon as I get up and not wait until later in the morning. My alarm clock is set at 4:00 AM, but many mornings I get between 3:00 and 3:30 AM. I usually wait until either 4:00 or 5:00, depending on when I get up, to make the coffee, but on trash collection day I have to get going so that I can get the trashcans carried to the curb.
