Labor Day 2019

My neighborhood is quiet,
no cars parked along the curb,
temperatures in the mid nighties,
and the sky is clearing of clouds.

Some of the neighborhood children
are outside playing,
some are inside,
and others are off on adventures
of their own.

It's a pleasant Monday,
a pleasant Labor Day.

Contemplating Winter

Will we have an excruciatingly cold winter,
or will it be pleasant?
The year is passing,
I am aging,
and the arthritis
in my joints
isn't too painful...
yet.

Missing Mama

Some months it's worse than other,
because I can talk to Mom,
but she can't talk to me.

I miss her voice,
I miss her love,
and I mess her encouragement.

Saturday afternoon temperatures rise

sending locals into cool homes
and tourist into casinos.

when I call it my muse
and other times I call it
intuition.

A pleasant morning,
triple digit afternoon
another Las Vegas summer.

Turn on the cool air,
remain in door
until it after sunset.

I Want To Give Up

I want to give up!
I want to stop fighting
the inevitable
and accept defeat.

It wouldn't be hard to give up,
to sit down on the battle field
and not fight any more.

Instead of giving up,
I'll open my prayer book,
turn to the Tablet of Ahmad,
and intone the prayer.

Instead of giving up,
I'll place my trust in Baha'u'llah,
and see what else I need to do
the change my situation.

I will not complain
except about the weather,

and weird noises in the middle of the night.
