Time Warp

 Ancient black cat
Time curls around itself
And falls asleep

To Sleep

To sleep!
Perchance to rest,
or at least dream
of a good night's sleep.
This is the elusive goal.

A Sleepless Night

It takes a sleepless night
to make you appreciate sleep.

A night
of tossing and turning,
of getting up and down,
and attempting
to make yourself comfortable.

Will I Be Able To Sleep Tonight

Last night
was a sleepless night.

As the sun sets,
I wonder
if I can sleep tonight.

If I can't sleep,
the next question is
"Do I read
or write poetry?"

Reading the Word of God Before Going to Sleep

My mind
hungry for reality
consumes the Holy Words.

My eyelids
heavy with meditation
fight to stay open.

My mind
thirsty for the Water of Life
drinks long and deep.

My eyelids
surrendering to the joy of rest
close in asleep.

Prompt Friday: Answering a What Question

Prompt: What can you find at home that you can find nowhere else?

Neighbors who wake me up at 1:00 AM pounding on the wall. The question arises, why are they pounding on the wall with a hammer at 1:00 in the morning. The answer is (probably) driving nails to hang a picture.

The second question is, why do they have to hang picture at 1:00 on a Friday morning. Most people in this complex work five, six, or seven days a week from morning until evening. This means that the want to sleep from about 10:00 PM until approximately 7:00 AM. Waking up at 1:00 AM, breaks up their sleep.

It's hard sometimes for me to get to sleep. Once I fall asleep, I like to sleep through the night. Waking up at 1:00 in the morning disrupts my sleep cycle and causes me to curse. I don't like to curse, especially when I can't yell over the pounding to make the person using the hammer, hear me. I'm not going to know on the door of anyone who has a hammer or any other type of weapon in their hand, just to curse them out. At least not unless there's a police officer standing beside or behind me.

Thursday Thoughts on Falling Asleep

Istijlál (Majesty), 4 Bahá (Splendour), 174 BE - Thursday, March 23, 2017 CE about 10:45 AM Pacific Daylight Time
"Research indicates that you should end screen time well before bedtime for quality sleep. What is your take on this, do you believe it makes a difference or not?" Blog Prompt

I usually get off the computer about twenty to thirty minutes before I go to the recliner I sleep in. It takes me around thirty minutes to get ready for sleep. After I sit down then I put some eye drops in my eyes, take medication, put lotion on my feet and legs, say prayer and read something. This takes me about an hour.
Once this is done I put another type of eye drops in my eyes, turn out the light and attempt to go to sleep.
My smartphone usually lays on the wooden television stand on the left side of the recliner. Also on that stand is my prayer book, a loose leaf notebook, a pen, the pillbox containing my morning meds, and a bottle of water. I close my eyes and attempt to fall asleep. Sometimes it is easy to fall asleep and sometimes it is difficult. If I find it difficult to sleep then I meditate by closing my eyes and focusing my mind on something pleasant. The only time I don't have any difficulty falling asleep is when I eat some chocolate before laying down.
I don't think putting my phone farther from my sleeping recliner would make any difference. At least it hasn't made a difference the few times I've left it on the desk by my computer. I also don't think sleeping in a bed or on the couch would make any difference. When I sleep in a bed my back hurts so badly that I can't sleep. When I sleep on the couch I can't raise my feet up comfortably. My doctor has told me to sleep with my feet up. The only solution to my sleeping problems is to sleep on a recliner.

I need more rest

Istiqlál (Independence), 3 ‘Alá (Loftiness), 167 BE – Friday, March 4, 2011 about 5:55 PM Pacific Time

I am not resting well. I do not get enough sleep. I do not sleep in my bed. I sleep on the couch. The reason I sleep on the couch is so that I can hear my mother if she needs me in the middle of the night. If I sleep in my bed, I do not always hear Mom when she calls me, so I sleep on the couch and do not get enough sleep or rest.

I know I am going to have to start getting more rest. I have to figure out a way to get rest and take care of Mom at the same time. I am just not sure how to go about it. The problem is that Mom gets crosswise in bed and then cannot get back into a comfortable sleeping position.

Another problem is she gets up in the middle of the night and will not use her walker. Mom refuses to use the walker, but she needs it for balance. I have to be able to hear when she gets up so that I can check to make sure she is all right. I am seriously considering hospice care for Mom, at least temporarily.
