Lodestone

Tense expectation:
my iron heart magnetized to attract
particles of happiness.

Aroused anticipation:
my magnetic field polarized to draw
atoms of contentment.

Happiness is twenty recipes for green beans

Fidál (Grace), 19 Qudrat (Power), 167 BE – Monday, November 21, 2011 about 6:10 PM Pacific Time

All right, it doesn’t take much to make me happy any more. For the past few weeks, we’ve eaten a lot of green beans, can chicken, and rice. It’s good, but I think I’ve overdid it because Mom doesn’t eat it very good any more, so I have to find different ways to fix green beans because I have an over abundance of canned green beans in my pantry.

A friend sent me a link to 20 Ways to Cook Green Beans. I glanced through the recipes a few minutes ago and they all sound good. Since I’m making a green bean salad this week, I’ll begin fixing one of the other recipes next week. The first thing I need to do is make a list of the ingredients and then check my pantry to see what I have on hand. I’m looking forward to cooking these new (to me anyway) recipes.

The Door to Happiness

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us."
~Helen Keller

Until I read that quote by Helen Keller, I never thought of happiness as being a door. For me happiness was a state of mind, something that occurred when you weren't actually looking for it. I like the picture of happiness as a door because a door is something I can walk through into a new room or a new phase of my life.

I think a person's concept of happiness changes with maturity and wisdom. I know when I was younger the things that made me happy were different then the things that make me happy today. There was a time when I didn't think happiness was a spiritual concept, however that changed. I now realize that happiness has more to do with the condition of my soul then with the material things in my life.

With age and wisdom
the door to happiness became
prayer,
meditation,
a bar of chocolate,
and the scent of roses.

A Happy Monday Morning in Las Vegas

Kamál (Perfection), 11 Nur (Light), 166 BE – Monday, June 15, 2009 about 7:38 AM Pacific Time

Monday and happiness normally do not go together. We consider Monday the first day of the workweek and so it is called "Blue Monday". However, this morning it is "Happy Monday", at least for me.

I went out to get the paper and I heard a Nightingale singing. I am not sure where the nest is located, perhaps in the neighbor's oak tree. The only nests in my trees this year are mourning dove nest. I did not hear the mourning doves, but I went out later then normal to pick up the paper. The mourning doves usually call at dawn they greet the rising sun.

Happiness is a spiritual attribute and material items produce temporary happiness. Happiness comes when a person focuses her mind and thoughts other things beside material possessions and acquisitions. My focus this morning is the nightingale's beautiful song and therefore I am happy.

Be Thankful in Adversity

16 Qawl 164 B.E. - Saturday, December 8, 2007 about 12:15 PM PST

Daily Writing Practice Prompt for December 7, 2007 - Write about Hard Times

Everyone has a different definition of individual hard times. Each individual goes through phases of hard times and good times. The one thing that is important during hard times is gratitude for what we have, for the little blessing that come on a daily basis. It's in hard times that we begin to understand what gratitude and happiness consist of.

Baha'u'llah tells us that we need to be thankful in adversity. It's in adversity that the blessing of God shine through. When everything is going good, sometimes we don't see the little blessing the make our daily life so enjoyable. It's only in adversity that these blessings become apparent.

Hard times or adversity can consist of anything from the wind knocking the electricity out for a couple of hours to the daily struggle to get enough to eat. Each individual throughout his or her life faces the full range of adversities (hard times) and must struggle to find happiness and gratitude in all phases of life. Happiness and thankfulness go hand-in-hand because one can't be happy without being grateful for it.
