Happy Monday, Busy Monday

My morning begin with a cup of cold coffee. When I went into the kitchen to make the coffee this morning, I found leftover coffee in the coffee maker's glass carafe. I poured the coffee into my cup and drink it while I was making this morning's fresh coffee. I didn't want to throw the coffee out and I didn't want to heat it up in the microwave, so I drink it.

Today is going to be busy because I have to pick up my senior commodities for this month. I also have some writing projects to finish before Friday and Saturday. I also have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday. I'm not planning to go any where special for the rest of the week. I'm not going to participate in Black Friday this year, but then I never participate in Black Friday. About the only thing I might do Friday is get gas and only then if I don't do it on Tuesday.

My Favorite Black Friday Activity

My favorite Black Friday activity is to stay home and eat Thanksgiving leftover. I am blessed today to have leftovers because I ate Thanksgiving dinner at a neighbor's home. I brought a plate home with me yesterday, so I could have leftovers today.

I will warm the turkey and dressing over for lunch with the rest of the leftovers. I still have a piece of apple pie, so I may eat it either for supper or breakfast on Saturday morning. I would rather eat leftovers on Black Friday then go shopping. In fact, I am not leaving the house to go to the mall or the grocery store today because I do not like to shop on Black Friday.

Black Friday 2011

It is Black Friday and I am at home with my mother because the Adult Daycare Center closed for the holidays. The Daycare will reopen Monday, but in the mean time, I am at home with Mom who is crying. Mom misses her parents and wants to see them.

My grandparents, Mom’s mother and father, died years ago; Mom does not remember attending their funeral. She thinks they are still alive and living in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Mom is upset because she thinks she left them without saying good-bye. I do not know how to help her with this issue. I cannot tell her my grandparents are dead because that would make her cry more.

It is Black Friday 2011. My mother has Alzheimer’s disease and does not remember her parents are dead. Mom still has a Risperidone tablet to take, but I cannot give that to her until 3:00 PM. She takes one tablet three times a day.

It is Black Friday 2011 and my mother is home crying for her parents. No matter what I say, it does not comfort her. Mom wants to see her parents, but they are dead. I cannot tell her they are dead because she would not believe and it would make her even more upset. I am going to attempt to distract Mom with food sometimes that helps. There is one chocolate pudding left in the refrigerator that I can give her, I hope it helps. It might help for a little while.

A brisk 1 degree Centigrade in Las Vegas

It is a brisk one degree Centigrade in Las Vegas right now. The temperature is supposed to increase later today. In fact, Las Vegas will be warmer on Thanksgiving, but then it gets cooler again by Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Since I do not celebrate Christmas, I doubt I will shop on Black Friday or even Cyber Monday, all though, I do have to pick out a New Year's card to send to my sister. I have about three or four cards to send this year. At least, two of the cars will be e-cards, but I have to use snail mail to send a card to my sister.

Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday

Thanksgiving is followed by two of the biggest shopping days of the holiday season, which Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Thanksgiving and Black Friday always bring back pleasant memories of my childhood. I have no childhood memories (pleasant or otherwise) of Cyber Monday, because it did not exist when I was growing up.

On Thanksgiving, we gathered at my grandparents' house to give thanks and eat turkey. On Black Friday, my grandfather bought the Christmas Tree, which we decorated on Saturday. On the Monday after Thanksgiving, we went back to school and waited impatiently for Christmas Eve and Christmas.

When I was a child living in Blackwell, Oklahoma, the Internet did not exist. No one shopped online. When my mother and grandparents bought us Christmas and birthday presents, they went into a brick and mortar store. They did not use a credit card or a debit card to pay for purchases, instead they used cash. Sometimes the advances in technology amaze me.

My week in Review

On Thanksgiving Mom and I went to Terrible Herbst hotel to the buffet. We had turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, potato salad, cream of pumpkin soup, and pumpkin pie. I never ate cream of pumpkin soup before, it was delicious. The Paratransit bus took us there and brought us back home.

Thanksgiving it also rained, which didn't do me a lot of good since my shoes had holes in the bottom and my feet got wet. All right, it's probably my own fault since I knew that I needed new shoes, I just didn't think the soles were that bad. Anyway I did learn something, I learned that I need to keep an extra pair of shoes on hand. Learning something is part of the process of transformation.

Black Friday I spent most of the day on a CAT bus going from one end of Charleston Blvd. to the other. I had to pick up Mom's meds at Walgreens and mine at Wal-Mart, when I originally took the prescription to Wal-Mart I had a car and didn't think there were be a problem. That prescription needs a doctor to refill it the next time, so I'll take the next prescription someplace closer.

While I was out yesterday I bought me a pair of shoes, but I'm wondering if I'm not coming down with a cold. A cold is the last thing I need because I don't want to take off work, but if I have a cold I'll have to. I think I'll fix me a cup of hot tea or coffee and have a chocolate candy bar or a cookie.
