Midweek Reflections Wednesday, June 17, 2009

‘Idál (Justice), 13 Nur (Light), 166 BE – Wednesday, June 17, 2009 about 2:06 AM Pacific Time

It's Wednesday again. Hump day and the week is half over. This is June the sixth month of the year and 2009 is half over. I realized today that I don't actually remember very much of 2007. It was a stressful year and I'm surprised I remember anything at all about it.

This realization occurred to me when I was checking the contents of my port at writing.com. Of course, my Mother spent most of 2007 in the hospital, so I'm surprised I remember anything at all about that year. Anyway I found two poem I wrote in January and February and realized I didn't remember writing them, but I know I wrote them.

It's up setting realizing that an entire year is a fog of chaos and worry. I know that the stress of what occurred that year is the reason I don't remember a lot of what went on. You see that was the year my Mother turned 86 in the operating room. Mom's recovering nicely and this year she turned 88.

Many other things happened this week, but the memory thing is the most important. It shook me up that an entire year just seemed to be in a fog. The incidents I do remember occurred in stressful moments. I think Mom and I are still recovering form 2007. Oh well, life goes on moving from week to week, from Wednesday to Wednesday and we must handle the stress that comes with living.

Wednesday's Midweek Reflections September 10, 2008

‘Idál (Justice), 3 ‘Izzat (Might), 165 B.E. – Wednesday, September 10, 2008 about 2:24 AM Pacific Time

It's Wednesday, the precise middle of the week. Three days have past and there are three days yet to come. Midweek reflections aren't like the daily accounting I do either mentally or in my off line journal everyday. Midweek reflections look at the events so far this week which have an impact on my life.

So far this week I attended the Feast of 'Izzat (Might) on Sunday evening at 7:30 PM. The Feast was held in the home of a friend and she had candles burning through out the three portions of the Feast of Might. These candles inspired the first poem of the month of 'Izzat.

So far this week I had four teeth extracted on Monday and impressions taken for a full set of dentures. By the time I arrived home after my appointment, the Novocain had worn off and I was in excruciating pain. I was in too much pain to concentrate on anything other then the pain, so I took a prescription pain pill and went to bed. As I lay in bed, I heard thunder roll and rain drops fall. It was a nice experience going to sleep listening to the rain.

So far this week I have paid my internet connection fee and gotten it into my provider's office before its due date for the first time this year. The connection is paid now I don't have to worry about whether I'm going to be able to get online.

A Time for Reflection

Jamál (Beauty), 1 ‘Alá (Loftiness), 164 B.E. – Sunday, March 2, 2008 about 7:34 AM PST

Today the nineteen-day Fast begins. The fast consist in abstaining from food and drink between sunup and sundown. Baha'i in good health, over a specific age and under a specific age don't eat or drink between dawn and sunset.

The act of abstaining from food and drink is symbolic of detachment from everything except God. ‘Alá is a time of meditation, prayer and reflection. The old year is coming to an end and a New Year begins on March 21. The nineteen days between March 2 and March 20 are for recharging spiritual batteries.

In ‘Alá I set my goals for the coming year. The time I look at the past year to see what is and is not working in my life. The year 164 B.E. was stressful for me. So I will look at the reasons for this and see what I have to change on a personal and spiritual level to make the coming year of 164 B.E. less stressful and more productive.
