I guess it's a Happy Valentine's Day. For someone it's a Happy Valentine's Day. I'm in a mullygrubbing mood today, which means I'm an bit depressed and wanting to collywabble. I think part of the reason for my mood is Valentine's Day. Today is the day for couples to celebrate their togetherness and I am alone.
Being alone on Valentine's Day is no fun. All the couples in the neighborhood are out somewhere doing couple things to celebrate the day and their togetherness. It's been a long time since I had someone to help me celebrate Valentine's Day. It's been a long time since I celebrated Valentine's Day. I'm not in a relationship. I don't even have a secret admire (at least not one that I know about). Sometimes my horoscope mentions my love life and a relationship, but I think that is just wishful thinking on the part of the horoscope.
I haven't received chocolates or roses from anyone in years. I think the thing I miss most about not being part of a couple is the lack of sharing. I don't have anyone to share a carafe of coffee. The only one I have to make breakfast or any other meal for is myself. I like my cooking and I like cooking for myself, but once in a while it would be nice to cook for someone else. It would be nice to have someone to cook for me.

Memories of Valentines Day

I have fond memories of Valentines Day. When I went to Grade School in Blackwell, Oklahoma, we had Valentines Day parties on that day, if it fell during a weekday, but if it occurred on a Saturday or Sunday then we had a party on Friday.
The day before the party, the entire class made mailboxes out of shoeboxes. We cut out red and pink hearts to decorate the shoeboxes and then each student put his or her name on the box. The next day, each student brought Valentines cards and put them in the shoebox mailboxes.
One of the rule, this was made by the teachers and stated every year, was that everyone in the class received a card from all the other students. It did not matter to the teachers whether an individual student liked or associated with another student. You participated and you gave everyone in the class a Valentines card.
None of the students made their own Valentines cards or bought expensive cards for this occasion. Before the party, a student’s parents took the student to the store and they bought a little book containing cards you could cut out and give to the other students. I am not sure how much those little cards cost, but they were not over $2.00 and some of them were less then $1.00. I always enjoyed those Valentines parties.

I don't have a heart shaped box containing mints and chocolate. I have a small box of chocolate covered mints by my computer, in the fridge, I have a chunk of bitter-sweet cooking chocolate, and on the kitchen counter I have some envelops of hot chocolate mix.

Monday is the observance Presidents’ Day

Monday, February 15, is the observance of Presidents' Day. This means that a number of businesses will be closed celebrating Presidents' Day. It also means there probably won't be any mail delivery, the exception of course is e-mail and that arrives in my boxes every day.
There are numerous Presidents' Day sales, plus there are Valentines' Day sales, since Valentines' Day is Sunday, February 14. There are a lot of sales going on in Las Vegas this week, not that I can take advantage of them, but it's nice to know they are occurring because it means the economy is on the upswing.
Since most businesses are closed Monday, to celebrate Presidents' Day, that is a three-day weekend. It's a four day weekend if you happen to work in a government office that's closed on Friday. Just think a four-day holiday an exotic location or just four days out of town in an unexotic location. I would be happy with a day out of town and a picnic basket.

2010 the End of a Decade

The year 2010, is the end of the first decade of the Twenty-First Century. I know this is only January and the year has just begun, but when December rolls around all of us will wonder where the year and the decade went. On December 31, 2010, we will watch the ball descend in Time Square and ask ourselves, what happened to the last ten years.

So help make this year special. Make 2010 the year you do something for someone else. Give a special gift to your beloved on Valentine's Day (February 14). On the first day of spring, which I believe falls on March 20 this year, plant a tree or do something else the planet. Make 2010 a special year for someone else.

Sunday and a New week begins

It is Sunday, February 15, the beginning of a new week and the day after Valentines' Day. Today the after Valentines' Day sales begin. There ought to be some good bargains today. However, the only things I would be, even remotely, interested in is the heart shaped boxes of chocolate.
I live in Las Vegas, the marriage capital of the world and the only Valentines' item I am interested in is chocolate. I love chocolate. Chocolate is my favorite candy. I doubt that I get any chocolate today. I may drive to the store later for something else, but not chocolate. My grandmother liked chocolate as well and my mother likes chocolate. Maybe I will get Mom some chocolate for her birthday March 19.

I remember how hurt I was when some of the kid in my class did not give me a valentine card, so I did not want to hurt any other student in that way.

Happy Valentines Day
Valentines Day brings back pleasant memories from grade school. Every year when Valentines Day feel on a weekday, my grade school class would exchange Valentine cards. I remember making little mail boxes out of card board. I think we used the empty cereal boxes and decorated them with red hearts. Each student would put his or her name on the box. The teach always made sure that every student gave cards to all the other students in the class.
I remember going to the store with my mother and buying Valentine cards. The type of cards we bought came in little books and I removed the cards along to dotted lines. The cards came out of the book easily, I would sign my name to each card, put the card in the envelope and then write the name of a class mate on the outside. I remember writing the first name of each student and then on Valentines Day, I would take the cards to school and put them in the proper "mail box".
We would open our mail boxes and take the cards out about an hour before class ended. That day we had cupcakes, decorated with hearts, chocolate milk and little candy hearts with messages on them. I still like the little candy hearts, all though I prefer chocolate candy most of the year.
