President's Day 2013

It is President's Day, so there were no postal deliveries and the banks were closed. At least, I think my bank was closed. The only banking I did today was to check my accounts online, so it did not matter much whether the banks were open or closed today. I took some items to the storage unit this morning and then I came back home.

It is President's Day, the day we remember all the Presidents of the United States and not just George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. I do not know if the schools were closed today or not. I know when I was growing up and we commemorated the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, the schools remained in session. At least, I think we went to school on those days; that was a long time ago and in another state.

Monday, February 21, 2011, Presidents’ Day

It is Presidents’ Day. It is a holiday, the banks are closed and there is no mail delivery. When I was a child, we celebrated Abraham Lincoln’s and George Washington’s birthdays separately and there were no three-day holidays.

When I was a child, it was a different world. I remember watching a black and white television set. I do not remember if the schools closed on either Lincoln’s or Washington’s Birthday. I remember learning that George Washington was the first president of the United States and that Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. We learned many other things about these two presidents.

Today I wonder if either of those two Presidents drank coffee. I am sure my teachers did not mention that fact in school. I have never read it the literature about them. It would be nice to know if they preferred to drink coffee or hot tea. It is little things like that which make history interesting and fun. We all learn about the big events, but the little facts bring an era in history to life.

Thoughts about a Three-day weekend

Monday is President’s Day and the third day of a three-day weekend. The day the President’s Day sales end. The only store I entered this weekend was Walgreen’s pharmacy to pick up a prescription for my mother. I do not think I am leaving the house tomorrow, but it is possible if I have to pick up another prescription.

I have plenty of work here at home to do. In addition, I have to write some copy. I write blog ads and post them in Poet 999’s Thoughts about Writing and Other Stuff. I did not make any blog post on either Wednesday, February 16, or Friday, February 18. Those were not good days. Any day I do not make a blog post of some type is not a good days.

I did not get any writing accomplished on those days. Usually I get a journal entry or a poem written, but I did not get any writing accomplished. I am tired and have been for several days. I am not sure why I am so tired, perhaps I am not sleeping well. This is not surprising because I have to listen for Mom, who wakes up crying in the middle of the night.

Monday is the observance Presidents’ Day

Monday, February 15, is the observance of Presidents' Day. This means that a number of businesses will be closed celebrating Presidents' Day. It also means there probably won't be any mail delivery, the exception of course is e-mail and that arrives in my boxes every day.

There are numerous Presidents' Day sales, plus there are Valentines' Day sales, since Valentines' Day is Sunday, February 14. There are a lot of sales going on in Las Vegas this week, not that I can take advantage of them, but it's nice to know they are occurring because it means the economy is on the upswing.

Since most businesses are closed Monday, to celebrate Presidents' Day, that is a three-day weekend. It's a four day weekend if you happen to work in a government office that's closed on Friday. Just think a four-day holiday an exotic location or just four days out of town in an unexotic location. I would be happy with a day out of town and a picnic basket.
