Or hot chocolate with extra whipped cream 

Or marshmallows. 

Holiday Time 2015

It's holiday time again. It isn't the holidays that I celebrate, but somebody celebrates the December holidays. Since I have family members and friends who celebrate this time of year, I will endeavor to send them some items that my mother made before her death in November of 2012. I have lugged these items with me through two moves and have no intention of lugging them through another move. Not that I'm planning to move any time soon.

I moved once in 2014 and again at the beginning of this year. I think two moves in two years is enough to satisfy my migratory urge for a while. However, since I didn't plan to move this year it might be a good idea to mail the stuff to my brothers. That way, if I have to make another unplanned move I won't lug those items with me. Also, both of my brothers celebrate the December holiday which makes this a good time to mail stuff to them.

Upcoming Holiday: Labor Day

Labor Day, observed the first Monday in September, falls on September 3 this year. Labor Day is a Federal Holiday and there will be no postal delivery. In addition, the banks, Federal, and state offices are closed. Labor Day celebrates the contributions of workers.

I am trying to remember how we celebrated Labor Day when I was a child. I know we didn’t go to school that day. I think my mother worked because she was a food server and the restaurant where she worked remained open. I don’t think my grandfather worked that day, so I suppose we stayed at my grandparents house.

The weather in Oklahoma was warm and summery on Labor Day. I believe Grandpa took us to the Lake on Friday every after school let out or on Saturday morning. At the Lake, we swim, fished, water skied, and played. Grandpa had a garden, so we also worked in the garden.

On Labor Day, the daycare center Mom attends is closed. Since Mom is home all day, I have to figure out what to fix for our breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I also need to find something to keep Mom busy and her mind occupied. I’ll figure out something between now and then.

Happy National Puzzle Day and National Corn Chip Day

Did you do the crossword puzzle or Sudoku in the newspaper today? If you did then you celebrated National Puzzle Day. My cell phone has a Sudoku puzzle, which I play when I am waiting in line or want to relax. Puzzles are fun and exercise our minds. If you have not celebrated National Puzzle Day, you still have time.

Today is also National Corn Chip Day. Did you know that in 1961 Fritos marketed the first Corn Chips? I love Corn Chips. This snack food is one of my favorites. I remember my Mother and Grandmother putting Corn Chips in my lunch box when I was a young. I like to eat them in soup instead of crackers. I put them in my hamburger sandwiches. I can eat Corn Chips with any type of food. So celebrate National Corn Chip Day and have a bag of Corn Chips with chili and cheese.

Working on Columbus Day

I'm taking a short break to rest and catch my breath. I have cloths hanging on the line drying, which I have to check in a few minutes. I have water heating in the slow cooker for either pasta or rice. I'm not sure which I'm going to put in when the water boils. It depends on how impatient I get because the water has to boil before I put the pasta in, but with the rice it doesn't matter.

Mom did the dishes this morning and cleaned the cat litter. I hope she will sweep her vanity and bathroom this afternoon. They probably need mopping, but I will worry about that tonight after she goes to sleep. I still have to see if Mom has laundry in her bathroom, but I'm going to wait until she is busy in the living room or the breakfast room. Mom gets upset when I take laundry out of her bathroom.

It's a good thing Columbus Day isn't a Holy Day. I don't mind working on national holidays, but I don't like to work on Holy Days. I'm rested, so now I can get back to housecleaning. I think I'll sweep the kitchen floor before I check the cloths on the line.
