It rained in Las Vegas last night. This morning, when I looked out my kitchen window the ground was wet. When I went out front to roll the trashcan to the curb there was a small puddle of water in my driveway.
Because it rained yesterday, it is chilly today. My central heat is not working properly because hen the auxiliary heat comes on the temperature in the house moves down and not up. The regular heat seems to work, but I don’t know how well it works. I called the company that does maintenance on our unit and they can’t send someone until Tuesday afternoon. So I guess we’re not the only household dealing with heating problems.
I’m going to a store tomorrow to buy a small heater for the bathroom. The bathroom needs to be warm for Mom to take a bath on Monday and Tuesday morning. I’m not crazy about having a space heater, but I have no choice Mom can’t take a bath unless the room is warm.
I’m tired of having problems with the environmental unit (central air or in our case heat pump). This year we’ve had more problems with that unit then in the past few years. I suspect we may need a new unit and I don’t want to think about that right now. Therefore, I will place this situation in God’s hands and get on with my life.

Heat Pump problems in Las Vegas

It has been a long day. I had to have the air condition fixed (again). Yesterday, it went out so I called company that takes care of the normal maintenance on the unit. A tech came today, explained the problem and told me how much it would cost. I suppose I should have called the home warranty people, but it would have taken them all weekend to get someone to fix it, which would mean we would be without cool air until Monday.
I did not look forward to going all weekend without cool air, so I had the unit fixed and paid for it myself. It will put us short this month, but with temperatures in the triple digits, I just could not face a weekend without cool air.

A triple digit afternoon in Las Vegas
This afternoon it is sunny with a breeze. The temperature is in the triple digits. I have all the area fans going in the house. I am going to make Mom and me some ice water. I was going to fix Mom a baked potato with carrots for her supper, but I am not sure now.
We have a heat pump that is supposed to help keep the house cool. The main problem is that the unit is too small for the house. I have had the unit repaired twice this year and once last year. I am worried about it working properly. Sometimes I think it works the way it should, given that we need another unit to keep this house properly cooled.
Sometimes I think I worry over nothing. I look for things to worry about and I find them. Now I am worried that the unit is not working properly. The unit has been working properly and it is about 105 degrees outside. I am probably worried because of an over active imagination.
I am going to post this and then make myself a nice cold glass of ice water while I am waiting for Mom to come home.

The Heat Pump is fixed
The heat pump works, so the house is warm. Right now, the thermostat is set at 78 degrees, but I think I’ll turn it down to 75 degrees before I go to bed; that is if I go to bed. I’m not sleepy and I have several things to catch up.
Having heat in the house has energized me. All the time the heat was off I could think of nothing else but keeping warm. Now that the heat pump is working, I can think of all sorts of stuff I need to do and I want to do. At least now, I won’t have to wear three sweaters while I work.

Plans for the coming week

It's Sunday afternoon and I have a full week ahead. Monday is Columbus Day and I think the schools are closed. I don't know what else will be closed Monday. I had plans to go pick up some free food and a couple of loaves of day old bread; however, I'm not sure if the places I plan to go will be open.
I may just take the chance they will be open and go tomorrow. Mom is usually in a much better mood is she gets out of the house, so it may be worth the trip. I would prefer to make just one trip to the places I'm going, but if they are closed tomorrow then I'll have to go back on Wednesday.
I can't go on Tuesday morning because I'm having someone come in the check the heating system. If we need the heat this winter I'll turn the system on, so I ave to have it checked before November. I'm hoping we can get by without heat this winter. We're still trying to pay off the cooling bill from summer. The biggest part of the electric bill is the cold air in summer and the warm air in winter.
If I can keep the unit off, the electric bill runs less then $100.00, but if we use the unit then the bill is over $200.00. That takes a large chunk of the budget and we're on a fixed income. Living on a fixed income sucks, if I could take a job outside the house it would help. However, Mom can't stay by herself and I can't afford a paid caregiver.
I make a little money online, but that isn't enough to pay the power bill when we use the central air. I think it's central air we have, all though it could be a heat pump.
