I went grocery shopping today. As usual, it wore me out. I remember going grocery shopping with my grandparents and I do not remember them getting worn out from just walking down an aisle in a grocery store. I know that I am not in that good of health, but I do no think I should be this tired after purchasing food. I have to be doing something different then my grandparent to get this tired.
One thing that my grandmother always did, which I do not always do, is make a grocery list. Grandma would make the list the day before and then check it the day she went to make sure she had written down everything she needed or wanted. Another thing my grandparent did was to start at one side of the grocery store then work their way to the other side by going down each aisle. I am a bit more haphazard in my approach to grocery shopping. In fact, I sometimes find myself returning to an aisle because I thought of something that I needed. I have to go grocery shopping again next week, so I will try my grandparents method. I might not get as tired and I could get everything I want in one trip.

On the Eve of National Novel Writing Month

On Saturday, November 1, National Novel Writing Month begins, I am participating in this adventure in writing. The working title for my 2014 novel is Mark of the Blue Wolf with an expected word count of 50,000 plus. I am storing my novel in my port at writing.com and intend to print out a copy of each day's work. I have to purchase a cartridge for my printer because I think the black and white cartridge in the printer is empty.
On November 1, I have to go the bank to deposit my check so I will purchase a printer cartridge while I am out. I suppose I should purchase a color cartridge as well; just in case its the color cartridge that is out of ink. I pray that the problem with the printer is the empty cartridges and not something more complicated or expensive to repair.
I also need to get some healthy snacks, but I am not sure what I want. I am on a low potassium, phosphorus, and protein diet so it is difficult to buy things that I can eat. Needless to say I read the labels on everything, so it takes me longer then normal to grocery shop. I have found that many items do not list the potassium or phosphorus levels the contain, which means I also have to check websites for those contents. Grocery shopping has become both an adventure and exercise. It is wonderful when I can get two thing accomplished at the same time in one store.

Grocery Shopping on Friaday a Family Tradition

I went grocery shopping this morning about 11:45 am and returned home about 1:45 pm. When I returned home, I parked in front of the apartment building so that I could unload the groceries. Then I drove the car around to the back of the building and parked in my spot.
When I came into the house, I put the groceries I purchased in the National Consumer Panel scanned and then put the groceries away. After I put the food in the refrigerator, I sliced a small tomato and ate it with a little mayonnaise. I'm still hungry, but I don't think I want another tomato. I still have some peanut butter from the senior food allotment I picked up the first of the month. A peanut butter sandwich sounds good and it would hit the spot this afternoon.
I realized, as I was putting the food away, that my grandparents always went to the grocery store on Friday afternoon. Grandpa would get off work, change clothes, and they would go to the store every week. Then on Saturday, if they did not go to the Lake, Grandma Mary would do laundry. I still have laundry to do, but I don't think I'm going to the laundromat this Saturday. Instead, I think I'll go either on Wednesday or Thursday.

Family History Friday: Grocery Shopping with my Grandparents
I remember going grocery shopping with Grandma and Grandpa. My grandparents went grocery shopping once a week. On Friday, Grandma would make the shopping list and then on Saturday, when Grandpa was off, they would go to the “grocery store”.
On Saturday, morning Grandma would get up and make breakfast. After breakfast, she and Grandpa would go grocery shopping. They always went to Safeway in Blackwell, Oklahoma. I can’t remember for sure, but I think Safeway was the only grocery store in Blackwell at that time. There was another privately owned market in Blackwell, but Safeway (I think) was the only supermarket in town.
When they arrived at the grocery store, Grandpa would push the shopping cart while Grandma picked the items from the shelves and put them into the cart. They would start at one side of the store and go up and down every isle until they had bought every item on Grandma’s shopping list. Since Grandma always wrote a complete list, they didn’t have to buy anything that wasn’t on the list.
The only exception my grandparents ever made was when one or more of their grandchildren went with them. Grandpa always bought something for the kids, even if it wasn’t on the list.
