Chocolate Questions

Can you see the taste of chocolate?
Can you hear the sound it makes
as it melts in your mouth?
Can you feel its silky radiance
as it flows down your throat?

Crop Circles

Geometric circles
Plant stems bent not broken,
The mystery increases,
Chills flow up the spine of fear,
Hair stands on end,
Questions echo through the mind:
Elves dancing on the corn?
Aliens waltzing on the wheat?
Angels communicating God's love?

One Hundred Words

I reread the words I'd written,
I listened for the voice of fear,
and found it expressed in each line.

I heard the question
reverberating through my mind:
Can I write two hundred words?

Did I detect
the voice of terror echoing
between the line?

Were those tears I heard,
in the unwritten words?

One hundred words to motive.
One hundred questions asked.
Can one hundred questions be answered
in one hundred words?

Am I Asking The Right Question?

We ask questions all the time:
Who, what, when, where, where, why, and how.
The answers come in various forms,
though they are often not what we want
or expect.

Are the questions
we ask God and ourselves
meant to elicit the answers we want
or the answers we need.

I find myself asking, "What am I doing wrong?"

Doesn't this suggest that I expect
to take the incorrect action?
On the other hand,
if I rephrase the question
it becomes "What am I doing right?"
Now I'm preparing my eyes to see reality.
God put within me,
within everyone,
a s park of divine light.

Rephrasing a question refocuses it
on either the positive or the negative.
It lets us see both what needs fixing
and what is well done.
God loves the individual and humanity,
has a plan for each person
and for civilization:
There is always something the individual is doing right.

Questions and Answers: A Poem

What is it I want?
Snow on a winter's day
Turning my yard white.

When did I last post?
Morning is cold in Las Vegas
Time moves incrementally.

To Subscribe or Not to Subscribe That is the Question

Jalal (Glory), 1 Mashíyyat (Will), 171 BE - Saturday, September 27, 2014 about 1:28 pm Pacific Daylight Time

Do I want to subscribe to a daily newspaper? This is the question I have asked myself over the past few days.  The question arose when I went into the grocery store last Saturday to purchase some much needed items. When I went into the store a couple of guys from the local paper were selling subscriptions. I said I had to think about it because I did not have the money in my checking account.

I went back into the store yesterday to pick up two prescriptions and buy some bread and turkey burgers. I had the money in my account this time because I transferred some cash from my savings to my checking for the prescriptions. I purchase the prescriptions and then took my SNAP to purchase the turkey burgers and some think bagels for a turkey burger sandwich. Before I go back into the store this coming week, I have to decide whether or not I want to have the local newspaper delivered to my front door.

There are advantages and disadvantages to taking a local newspaper. One of the disadvantages is the cost. This is a special offer to get subscriptions so the subscription cost will increase after six weeks. Can I afford the increase in cost? Another disadvantage is that I live in an apartment, which means there is no recycling. The newspaper would go into the dumpster with the rest of the trash and then into a landfill. That, in itself. os a good reason not to take a daily paper.

One of the advantage is that I would have something to read with my coffee of a morning. Another is the Sunday comics, which I always enjoy reading. Do these advantages outweigh the disadvantages? I can access the comics online. I can drink my coffee while I am reading the comics or reviewing on writing.com. I can get the local, national, and international news online. Is there any other reason for me to subscribe to a newspaper that is not online?

Thoughts on Friday, December 13, 2013

Istiqlál (Independence), 2 Masá’il (Questions), 170 BE - Friday, December 13, 2013 about 3:50 pm Pacific Time

I spent most of the morning picking up food at one of the Las Vegas food pantries, which means I didn't get very much writing accomplished today. I'm attempting to catch up on what I'm supposed to write today without worrying about what I didn't get written yesterday.  Thursday was a busy day as well.

I had an appointment at 1:30 pm with wound care at UMC. I had to leave the house early because I need to stop by the bank and with draw some money to pay part of the power bill. After withdrawing the I went to the hospital and spent the rest of the afternoon in the outpatient waiting room or in an examination room. The doctor gave me a prescription for compression stocking, which I have to get filled as soon as I can raise the money.

Then last night, I went to the Feast of Questions with a friend. That was a nice experience and a refreshing break in my routine. I enjoyed the Feast and when I came home, I had a good nights rest. This morning's little outing wore me out and I've spent most of the day recovering and putting groceries away. I still have some canned goods to put away, but I may not get those done until tomorrow because I have a lot of writing to do tonight.

I had planned to go to the grocery store tomorrow, but I think I will stay home. I only have one item to purchase, but I haven't checked my bank account today so I don't know what came through. I'll probably check the account either tonight or in the morning. Since I know what's coming through there shouldn't be a problem.

Born in the Month of Questions

6 Masa'il 164 B.E. - Monday, December 17, 2007 about 12:55 PM PST

My birthday is on December 24 and, according to my mother, I was born just before midnight. This means that my birthday falls after sunset on the twenty-fourth, which makes it the fourteenth of Masa'il instead of the thirteenth. I'll have to look at my birth certificate to see the precise time, but I don't think that knowing exactly when I was born is all that important.

I was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma, on a Christmas Eve night and my mother spent Christmas in the hospital. I was my mother's Christmas present. Growing up my mother tried to do something special with me so that my birthday could be special. We celebrated Christmas at the time and having a Christmas Eve birthday wasn't a lot of fun.

All right, I do have issues about Christmas or perhaps I should say Christmas Eve because of my birthday. Christmas itself was interesting and sometimes fun. I remember trying to stay awake on Christmas Eve night to see Santa Claus. I remember leaving Christmas cookies and milk beside the tree for Santa Claus. I never did stay awake long enough to see either Santa or the Santa gifts found under the tree the next morning, but trying to stay awake was fun.

So getting back to my birthday on 14 Masa'il, I'm not sure what I'm going to do this year. I'd like to go out for prime rib, but that may be out of the question. I don't like to drive in Las Vegas on Christmas Eve because of the last minute Christmas shoppers. I also don't like to go to the mall on that day, all though I haven't been to a restaurant on Christmas Eve. I might like going to a restaurant on my birthday.

I've made several birthday wish lists. This year all I'm hoping for is some birthday cards. I haven't received any yet, but my birthday is still several days away. I don't know why I want someone to send me a birthday card this year, but I do. I'll put my wish list in the next post.
