Insomnia on April Fools Day

It is after midnight on Monday, April 1, 2013 and I cannot sleep. I have insomnia on April Fools Day. For the past two or three hours I have attempted to sleep without any luck. Since I cannot sleep, I may as well bet sitting at the computer, at least here I can accomplish something even if it is only a blog entry.

For two hours I have listened to the wind blow. I heard something rattling on the cement outside my house, so I got up and looked out the door. The wind was blowing an aluminum can across my driveway. I think it was a can, but it could have been some other piece of trash. I did not go outside to see what it was, all I saw was something white blowing across my driveway.

After I decided the aluminum can noise was not something dangerous, I went back to bed and attempted to go to sleep. No luck. I am awake. I cannot go back to sleep. Therefore, I have to do something else to fill the time. I could do dishes. I could do laundry. I could read. I could sit on the couch and watch television. Since I have a writing deadline approaching, I will post this blog entry and then work on the poem I need to finish by April 3.

April Fools Day Memories

I have been thinking about April Fools Day memories and pranks. I do not have any outstanding memories of pranks played on April Fools’ Day. I remember my brothers finding a dead snake in a trashcan, which they threw into the living room. The snake landed in such a way that it looked as if it crawled into the house. Everyone, except my brothers thought the snake was alive because there was a rip in the screen door and the snake could have crawled into the house.

I do not remember if this was an April Fools prank or just an ordinary prank. My brothers had a tendency to do things like this; perhaps that is why I do not specifically remember any of their April Fools pranks. My brothers were very mischievous and always did things that on April Fools day would make good April Fools pranks, but they did them all year long.

I remember the snake incident occurred sometime in the spring. I also remember that it was a large snake. I think possible a black snake or some other non-poisonous serpent. This could have been an April Fools’ Day prank.

Happy Poetry Writing Month

This is April Fools' Day a day of fun, foolishness, and fools errands, which is what many call writing poetry. I believe writing poetry good idea and since April is Poetry Writing Month I'm going to make this entry about poetry instead of fools. True a poem can be about foolish things, looking like a fool or even the emotions that make fools out of everybody. However, writing poetry itself is not foolish.

Poetry expresses emotions such a love or passion. I write bitter love poems myself, which is why I normally do not post love poems on this blog. I also write spiritual poems, fantasy and science fiction poems, as well as other forms of poems.

National Poetry Writing month is devoted to the joys and frustrations of writing poetry. Any action that is worth doing and helps in the transformation of the human soul includes frustration. Writing poetry assist in the spiritual transformation of the individual by helping a person express emotions.

April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day received its name because in 1582, the Gregorian Calendar replaced the Julian Calendar and the date of New Year's Day changed from Apil 1 to January 1. Not everyone was happy about this date change and continued celebrating New Years' Day on April 1. Those who celebrated on January 1 made fun of those celebrating on April 1, thus the name April Fools' Day.

There are problems of course with this explanation of April Fools Day because it doesn't explain the spread of the custom; ror more information see April Fools' Day: Origin and History. Personally, I think that having a day to celebrate foolishness is a good idea because it helps relieve stress.
