Midweek Reflections: Closing out July’s Books

Wednesday, August 01, 2012, time to close out July’s books and see if everything balances. It is the middle of the week and the first day of a new month. I stayed home today; I try to remain in the house on either the first day or the last day of a month. The reason is to close out the books and make the mortgage payment.

I went to the mortgage company’s website earlier today and set the payment up to come out of the bank account. Now all I have to do is close out last month’s books, which under normal conditions is not difficult; especially if I check the bank accounts at least every other day and put all the cash payments in the spreadsheet on the day I make them.

The only thing I did differently this month is to wait until afternoon to close July’s books. Normally, I do that in the mornings, today I decided to do it in the afternoon because this morning was somewhat hectic. I do not work online or on important documents until after Mom is bathed, dressed, and off to the daycare center.

This morning I wrote and posted to some items to challenges on writing.com. This afternoon, I am more relaxed and ready to work on the books. I do not like doing the financial books I have to do them. I follow my own system and it seems to work all right. Most of the time everything balance and when it does not balance then I know the problem is a cash outlay I forgot to enter.

Living on a shoestring and a prayer

My mother and I are on a fixed income. We have been living on a shoestring and a prayer. Now, from what I gather listening to the financial news, our shoestring will be getting shorter. I am to the point of paying off some of the past debts, while keeping most of the monthly bills paid.

I have figured out which bills I can put off for a month or two and which I have to pay on time. We are find this month, I have most of the monthly bills paid and we have enough medication to last until about the middle of August. August bills are the issue.

On August 1, I have to go online to set up the mortgage payment to come out of the bank account on August 4 or 5, when one of Mom’s automatic deposits hit her bank account. That is the question, will that direct deposit arrive or not? If the deposit does not hit her account on time, then I have to find $850.00 to cover the withdrawal on August 5.

Right now, my only solution is prayer. I cannot find a way to get the money, if I worry about the problem. The only way to find a solution is worrying because I cannot see the solution if I worry. The only way I can stop worrying is prayer; therefore, I will increase my prayers and place the situation in God’s hands.

I finally got my Paratransit ID

I got the ID last weekend and I used it on the regular root on Monday to go to my meeting. I called the Paratransit yesterday afternoon and arranged for a ride to work on Wednesday. However, I didn't arrange for a ride to work on Thursday or Friday, so I'm going to have to call them to arrange for those two day.

Mom and I should go somewhere on Friday to pick up some food. I'm going to have to reschedule the food pick up until next week. I just can't afford to take off another day this week. I don't know why I'm posting this, because no body really wants to know about our financial situation. In this economy, everyone has financial problems to deal with.

At this point, I'm worried more about what to do with the car parked in my driveway that won't run. I've already put too much money into it, so I'm not planning on putting any more in, especially since I don't know if the engine is damaged or not. It won't run because of the timing belt, but it needs a new water pump as well.

The advantage to having a car that doesn't run is you don't have to buy gas for it. Of course, as soon as my car stopped running gas went down. All right, I think that was a coincidence. Still it makes me wonder just like it raining right after washing the car. Of course, I haven't washed my car myself in the past two years, because if I wash the car in the yard, I could get a ticket for wasting water. After all, I live in a desert in the middle of a drought.
