This morning, after I got Mom out of bed and into the living room, she asked to go to the bathroom. Before taking her in the bathroom, I had to put the Gate belt (this is the belt I use to help transfer to from one piece of furniture to another) on. Next, I took her walker into the bathroom because I need it to help transfer her from place to place. After that, I took Mom into the bathroom and got her situated on the proper piece of equipment.
Mom suffers from Alzheimer's disease, which affect her memory and her emotions. Mom go angry and kept insisting she wanted to go to the bathroom. I explained that we were in the bathroom and also about the toilet. She kept insisting that we were not in the bathroom and that she was not sitting on the toilet.
"Mom," I said, " where do you want to go?"
"Outside," she replied.
That is when I realized that Mom thought we had an outhouse rather then an indoor toilet. I said, "Mom, we now have indoor plumbing." It took me a while to convince her that we did not need to go outside to find the bathroom, but eventually she accepted the fact. However, I am now convinced that Mom thinks she still lives on a farm in Oklahoma. Mom was born and raised on a farm, so this belief makes sense when I consider that she is slowly forgetting the present.

The drain behind the washer (again)
Fidál (Grace), 16 Masá’il (Questions), 168 BE – Tuesday, December 27, 2011 about 1:45 PM Pacific Time
The drain behind the washer is doing it again. It is overflowing into the wall between my kitchen and living room. Then it is leaking into the living room. I do not know what the problem is this time. I do know I have no desire to go to the laundromat any more.
I called and left a message for the people who fixed the problem. Someone will get back to me. I will call back again tomorrow if I have not heard from anyone by 5:00 PM today. I will have to go back to the laundromat beginning Monday or Tuesday of next week if the issue is not resolved by then.
I have used the machine for several weeks without it overflowing. This is the first time it has overflowed in all the time I have been washing clothes since having it fixed. At least, I think this is the first time; I am sure I would have noticed water in my living room before this. The problem could be the sewer pipes, which are iron and have tree roots in them. I think there is something I can run down the drains to take care of the tree roots.
I have noticed that my kitchen sink is running slow, so the problem with the pipes behind the washer could have something to do with that. Oh well, at least Mom and I have clean clothes for a while.
Perhaps having the last pine tree in the front yard removed would help solve the issue of overflowing drainpipes. It is going to cost, at least, $800.00 to have the pine tree removed. True I had planned to have the tree removed in 2012, I just did not plan to have it removed until March or April, but now I may have to remove it before the end of January.

I'm having a plumber coming on Wednesday
Kamál (Perfection), 7 ‘Alá (Loftiness), 166 BE – Monday, March 8, 2010 about 2:43 PM Pacific Time
The problem is the kitchen sink, it's either the garbage disposal or the drain; I'm not sure which one is the problem. I do know I'm eventually going to have to have them back for other things. Mom enjoys the house, but she doesn't have to find the money for repairs. Actually, Mom doesn't have to worry about finances at all, she does worry about them, but Mom doesn't have to.
I'm glad the plumber isn't coming until Wednesday afternoon because I have to go to the bank and get some cash to pay the plumber. It does make washing dishes a bit of a challenge; I got the dishes washed today without using the kitchen sink or dumping water down that drain. If figuring out how to wash dishes without using the kitchen sink or the dishwasher is the biggest problem I have then the rest of my life is going to be easy.

Another Autumn Day in Las Vegas
Istiqlál (Independence), 8 ‘Ilm (Knowledge), 166 BE – Friday, October 23, 2009 about 5:07 PM Pacific Time
Another nice autumn day in Las Vegas, The inside temperature ranged from 72 to 78 digresses today. I don't know the temperature range outside the house. I have a new digital thermostat, which shows an accurate temperature reading and it's wonderful.
I don't have to guess at the temperature any more. I just check the thermostat to see precisely how warm or cold it is in the house. There are other things I need to get fixed around the house, such as the plumbing. Actually I think the plumbing will be the next item on the agenda.
